Retro beauties

This week’s retro overload comes from Family Circle Home Decorating Guide. Hundreds of Great Ideas to Beautify Your Home, New York Times Company, 1973. Oh the patterns! Oh the colours! Oh the bizarre blow up seal in the last photo! Oh my poor sore head! Is that a suzani from the 70’s? I guess everything old is new again.

This makes my head hurt a bit too. And um, what’s with that seal??

Bleh. I can’t believe people used to live like this (the effect of good drugs maybe?). I do spot some rattan/cane chairs in the third photo that look great in yellow (minus the gross fabric). Maybe I should do one of my 3 new ones yellow.

Ouch!

Um.. is it wrong that I love the seal? 😛 Hey, it’s a kids’ room, so you can’t say it’s creepy! Then again, perhaps I’m partial to this seal because when I was young I had one of my own, and it was my faithful bed companion throughout kindergarten… HAHA.

I do like the Picasso painting of ET in the second last photo.

And I bet the kid in the bedroom of the final picture grew up terrified of mathematics, but could never work out why.

kim. says:

Oh ET!! Thanks for pointing him out Blandwagon!
