Planting a little retro

Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2009 by midcenturyjo

House plants are becoming an all consuming passion of mine. I find myself dragging home little pots from the supermarket and losing myself in green envy just outside the hardware store. Today’s retro deliciousness is fitting then Interior Decorating with Plants, by Carla Wallach, Macmillan Publishing, New York, 1976. And please no comments on the phallic symbolism of that cactus in the bedroom!

the green room was very catching for the eye 🙂

This post is too funny – I’ve been itching to get some new houseplants lately but want to wait until spring so they don’t die en route. I’ve been neglecting the plants I have and many of them have been dying. I crave plants in my home.

I like houseplants if the leaves are graphic. But the leggy, straggly plants look cluttery to me. Love the bedroom cactus. The bathroom plants not so much. They look creepy!

I’m loving this! I just watched the episode of Mary Tyler Moore show where Rhoda opens up her own plant shop…and then Mary’s apt gets a makeover and she ends up with a shelf unit full of plants like in the last photo above.
