It’s all black or white … stark stalking

Posted on Fri, 9 Jul 2010 by midcenturyjo

Sometimes it’s either black or white. You either like it or you don’t. It’s either hard and cold and impersonal or it’s clean and slick and modern. It’s monumental or monstrosity. Sometimes it’s also just a little grey. Although I couldn’t move in and be truly happy there  are elements of this Melbourne home that I really like. The gardens, the concrete floors, the art, the space. Then the little voice in my head goes”nooooo… not for me”. Does it tick the boxes for you or do you want to close the door on it? I’ve been real estate stalking again. The link is here while it lasts.

I’m loving the chic modern simplicity of black and white right now – great post! Actually just posted about B&W myself @ Style Storyboard

Eleni says:

Although the interior is like an average modern, sleek house (I’m not a fan anyway), the exterior I don’t like at all! Too much trouble without any obvious reason. Good idea to put us in such a dillema, makes us really see the place!

Trish says:

I can certainly admire the craftsmenship that has gone into this beautiful home but I am a little more traditional in my style & would be looking for some cosy spaces, so this one isn’t for me!!

Nat says:

love black and white, but this is too sparce and "grand" for me. can’t imagine my little one running around here. however, it is a beautiful house, just not sure if i could feel at home here.

ModFruGal says:

Yes. I could. While a bit cold feeling now… I think it’s easier to "warm up" a cold place than it is to create a " cool" element that isn’t there already. A little extra color and rugs could make this place feel very warm yet sleek. Love it.

hmm…it may be slightly cold for my taste (not enough variety of texture, contrasts, warmth) but overall, i like the construction and layout. i think i’d like an elongated space- my dog would certainly enjoy that! she could run from one end to the other.
i do love the look of that pool!

Kate says:

Amazing! I always wonder how people come across such wonderful pictures of such great spaces???? I’m so new to the blogging world but I woud love to do something like this one day on my blog!

Don says:

Looks like early 2000’s dot com office space.

Lisa says:

I agree with Don. Parts of it could pass for a commercial space. I would have used greys in place of so much black. Ditch the dining room chairs.

I’d tolerate the stark spaces in order to have that lovely lap pool! The black-and-white do rather fit with a fitness club theme.

I’m surprised nobody commented about the Teletubby art.
