Frederic Hooft

Posted on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 by KiM

We received a very intriguing email the other day from a reader named Adriaan regarding this post Jo published a while ago of photographer Frederik Vercruysse’s work. Turns out it featured a couple of photos of the home of interior designer Frederic Hooft. Seems he now resides in an amazing 16th century home located in the city of Ghent (having bought it 15 minutes after seeing it for the first time). It’s gorgeous – the vintage modern blend is perfectly juxtaposed against the history of the home. (Source)

To sleep perchance to dream

Maree Homer +1

Posted on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 by midcenturyjo

Three and a half years. Yes three and a half years since I visited Australian photographer Maree Homer‘s website. (The original post is here.) A lot has certainly happened since the least of which is an overflowing portfolio and her work constantly in Australian shelter magazines. The work has matured. Light is still paramount but now the rooms are havens from the harsh bright light outside. Slashes of light don’t cut across spaces. Homes are more appealing because, as most Aussie’s will know, being in the cool cocoon of the inside as opposed to the harsh, hot outside is a cultural dreaming. Still an ode to modern Australian life her work captures the spirit of the rooms, the carefree life we love to lead and the slight larrikin attitude that Aussie’s have.

Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

Posted on Mon, 30 Jan 2012 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

I thought I’d show you our 6 month old lab on our furniture!
Melaine

Vince, our big black lab, is a retired seeing eye dog – enjoying his new found life of leisure on our fleecy, plush Clifton sofa.
Laurie (Wellesley, MA)

Attached is a picture of our cat Moo sitting on the back porch at our home in Oakland, CA. My longtime friend and housemate love sitting on our porch in the morning with a cup of coffee and Moo, our scraggly cat that we rescued from the train station.
The second picture is of our Bita (that is just her nickname). Her real name is Lola and she is oh so lovely and white. She perfectly matches our all white and black house. She is sitting on “her” chair – a white, Shabby Chic wicker back chair. She loves to sit here and stare out the window. Unlike Moo, she stays inside because she is far to dainty and delicate to face the cold cold wild.
Two more!

– Jae & Ryane

Here are my three boys, on my favorite vintage orange chair. Early, Fred and Norman can be found snuggled together here all the time.
– Gin (Sacramento, CA)

When we got Eames we had to take a picture of him on his namesake, the Eames Lounge.
Kama

This is Roo hangin’ on the vintage sofa! She’s just a pup, but knows the best seat in the house.
– Kate (Chicago, Il)

Here is a picture of our puppy Tucker at this link below- he is on a chair that we got out of the dumpster and cleaned up – the back of the rattan has a tear in it but we just keep a cashmere throw over that part for now until we figure out how best to fix/modify it.
– Colleen (Bethesda, MD)

wish we could help with the stray, but we are in Cali. And the sofa is full. 🙁

My little yorkshire Princess and my Arne Jacobsen Chair‏

My spoiled poodle, Cesar, and his sister Bijoux.

This is Bo, my 7 month old rescue. She was found 2 months ago tied to a fence here in Brooklyn. She had a terrible wound on the back of her neck that has healed well. Her favorite spot is on my Moller 78 chairs. Thank god she does not use them as a scratching post!
Along with Bo i have a wonderful dog called Maddie. She is a 2 year old Goldendoodle who loves relaxing on her favorite chair.
– Alex

the dining table: desk, renovated by husband, passed down from father-in-law, quite old.
the cat: mulvey, the manx, also quite old (about 16 years). she can get up there all by herself, but needs help on the dismount (her suspension springs aren’t what the used to be)

– Patti (Brisbane)

This is Moco Vinny in my cramped (but efficient) studio. She is on top of a trash find and next to a Craigslist free mid century bookshelf-type thingy. Very glamorous.
The pics below are of Farrah Boo in our little sun room.  She is the fat lardy blob on the long couch.
Third pic is also Moco Vinny on the same couch salivating after the birds.
– Pam

This is Chloe. She is making herself comfortable on my folding chair from Anthropologie. She sometimes sits here while I am getting ready in the morning.
– Anna (Media, PA)

Jules & Zola in their customary position on the duvet cover I made from old drapes.
– Heather

This is my bulldog Buster, sitting atop his throne in our soho loft. Hands down, best snuggler I know!
– Genevieve

Here are some pictures of my cat Sammich on a loveseat my mom reupholstered for me in my favorite pattern, houndstooth.
– Sarah (North Carolina)

Mia (black) and Cali (white) on slipper chair in my living room.
– Jody (Kensington MD)

My little dog is named Stevie. He’s a 4 year old pug/terrier rescue from the ASPCA who has commandeered the chair as his own. I was taking a piano lesson at the time and he was just listening and relaxing!
– Mike (NY)

Clover is on his favorite piece of furniture, a Barcelona chair. I adopted from the ASPCA in California 6 years ago while in college.
Gatsby, our 3 year old handsome mutt from the ASPCA in Chicago, is napping in front of a modern bookcase.
– Annie (Chicago, IL)
