Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 24 Dec 2012 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

Just in case you need some pics, I attach a couple. Photo credit Sara Essex Bradley (dog  – Cholo). My snap shot (cat – Kitty Kitty Bang Bang)

This is the Frida and her charming mustache.

This is Freddie taking an afternoon nap on our rattan sofa
Robert (London)

I showed up to photograph the kitchen of Christy Vega and this little cutie was the first thing to catch my eye. This is his special spot under the tree and if you try to take it he will show you who’s boss!
– Marcia (Los Angeles, California)

This is our Norwegian Buhund Ronja who likes to sit on all of our furniture. She is not allowed on the table but she thought she was home alone and that this was a nice high place to guard the house.
– Roos (Netherlands)

This is Peace, my little bed hog, sleeping in her favorite spot in the house–my bed.
– Alex (Los Angeles)

This is Lefty, he is a Pit Bull from Austin, TX. He sleeps like this daily in the living room on our camel colored, leather sofa.

A second helping

It is that time of the year after all! Let’s go back fro a second helping from SIMO Design. I can’t resist the sophisticated neutral palette of their latest work – the Vermont House.

SIMO Design

Ho ho ho! It’s almost time for reindeer and a jolly fat man. I wouldn’t be unhappy if I found anything refurbed by architect/designers Sam Gnatovich and Alexi Rennalls of SIMO Design in my stocking. (OK hard to fit a California Bungalow or a midcentury modern house in a stocking but you know what I mean 😉 I love that even while modernising these homes they have retained the original. It’s a young, vibrant take on the family home.

Dressed up for the holidays

Posted on Sun, 23 Dec 2012 by KiM

I am finally done my Christmas preparations (besides food) and can start to relax for my week off from the day job (check out my super cheap gift wrapping solution on my page). Since I’m in the holiday mood, I thought I’d share a couple of really cute apartments I found on Micasa that are spruced up with a bit of festive decor. P.S. Jo and I never quit, so there will be blog posts up throughout the holidays. We typically do blog reading lists and favourites rooms from this past year so don’t forget to stop by!

Stalking on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 22 Dec 2012 by midcenturyjo

At this time of the year the cities and towns across Australia empty as the population begins the annual Christmas migration to the beach. It is the ultimate family daydream to own a beach shack with water views or if you can’t afford to buy one then at least rent it for the two weeks around Christmas and into the new year. Sun, sand, surfing and copious amounts of seafood and alcohol. That’s the way to celebrate Christmas in the Great Southern Land. Today I’m stalking the ultimate beach shack at the most easterly tip of Australia, in the celebrity holiday town of Byron Bay. Owned by the Arnott (biscuit) family it is known by the locals as “The White House”. Time to check the biscuit jar for the extra coin though. Asking price is over $6 million AUD. Ouch! You can rent it for around $14 000 a week (Kate Moss and Elle Macpherson have). Save me a place on Boxing Day. I’ll bring the prawns and champers. Link here while it lasts.
