More from Karen Akers

Just a few more houses from Sydney interior designer Karen Akers. The first, in Roseville, is a finalist in the 2013 Dulux Colour Awards. The second, in Gladsville, made the same finals in 2012 and was shortlisted for the Australian Interior Design Awards as well. Traditional and contemporary. Light, bright and colourful. Joyful, fun and fab.

Those wooden valve-ish doorways are amazing. Are they common in Australia? I think I've seen something similar, also in an Australian house

The ceilings and woodwork in the first couple photos are amazing.

Lea says:

Yes they are common in Federation and Queenslander style homes. So beautiful.

The TV room is so fresh! The lack of a ubiquitous couch in the lounge gives me hope for mankind… or at least the interior design part of mankind. Paint treatment, interesting without being intrusive. Sets a tone, rather than demands attention. Great stuff.
