From public loo to private home

Posted on Tue, 30 Jul 2013 by KiM

We love conversions here at DTI, but they’re typically lofts or churches. This time – it’s a freaking public washroom! A big thanks to Deb for sending us the link to this formerly derelict underground public lavatory located in south-east London. They were built in 1929, and became the home of architect Laura Clark in 2011 and only cost £65,000. Now it’s a pretty cool 1 bedroom flat, with only a bit of tile, a VD sign a couple of mirrors as a reminder of what it once was. Via The Telegraph.

Taking the subway

Why be pedestrian in your kitchen design when you can ride the subway? Subway tile that is. Beautiful kitchen by Heiberg Cummings Design.

Purple perfection

Posted on Tue, 30 Jul 2013 by midcenturyjo

That late afternoon light in the mountains. Those purples and dusky blues as the golden sun dips low over eucalypt forests. The owner of this TriBeCa loft, by stellar Australian firm Nexus Designs, chose a colour palette inspired by Australia’s Blue Mountains. Absolute perfection. But then you wouldn’t expect anything less from Nexus Designs.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 29 Jul 2013 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is dark or fuzzy then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

Parker’s favorite chair
– Manny (Miami, FL)

I am finally submitting a few pics of our 4 year old pug, Arya. The first picture shows her napping on our sofa from Younger Furniture (one of our favorite furniture purchases). The second picture shows her enjoying our brand new Danish chair produced by Selig. It has been one of our best second-hand finds while trying to furnish our new house.
Jamie (Greenville, SC)

I just caught Grey-dog having a nap on an ottoman. He soaks up the sun whenever he can, even if only his nose gets it.
Pat (Carleton Place, ON)

The photo with Tango was meant to document a dining chair DIY project, but it really just showcases his death stare haha.
As soon as I brought home this leather tufted storage ottoman, Kitty couldn’t help himself.

Benji shows off his new haircut on our sofa. When friends visit he refuses to get off!
