Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 24 Feb 2014 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[at]hotmail[dot]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

Slight problem. My 75 pound Komondor puppy (yes, puppy), Szuka, couldn’t fit on the furniture even if she was allowed. To my chagrin, though, she is totally smitten with the one piece of furniture I’d prefer she not rub her perpetually damp beard all over. I found the mid-century chair in this photo curbside, on my way to the Ottawa Bluesfest last summer, and had it reupholstered in a stunning teal velvet right before I moved away from the Ottawa area. It’s become a deeply sentimental piece to me. She must sense how much I love it, because she spends most of her day leaning against, rubbing herself along, or just chilling beside this precious chair. So apparently we share a love for it. I know Pets on Furniture is about pets on furniture, and not “pets adorably situated in the vicinity of furniture,” but it’s not her fault – if she could fit comfortably, she’d be all over this chair like butter on toast.

This is Sphynx. He is my second rescue cat….. and by rescue I mean someone dropped him off in my neighborhood to die and he found us….. He showed up last spring, and lived on my back deck. My 9 year old son loves him, so much so that he takes him sledding. Yes, the cat loves it. So, when the weather turned and the temps got into the negative double digits- we took him to the vet, got him all fixed up and 6 weeks ago he came inside to live. He loves my mid century rocker. It’s where you can find him- unless he’s trying to curl up on your lap.

Jackson is a rescue love child from a jack russel and chihuahua (we think) and our mascot. Funny enough….he rules the house and loves sitting on piles of vintage Levi’s or in this case, blankets stacked on an Eames molded plastic side chair. Smart puppy.

1 – I had just cleared the holiday decorations from the sofa table and placed that basket there for a second when Kiki claimed it. It’s her most favorite spot ever, and now a permanent part of the tableau!
2 – This was another “I’ll set this down for a second…” incident of which Kiki is so fond. The stool was en route to my daughter’s room, but in the half-minute it took me to drink some water, Kiki commandeered it and presently lords over us from her dining room perch.
3 – Kitty and lighting were finally in synch so I had to shoot.

Harry and soft furnishings: pillows made from fabric of vintage drapes – a mid century modern brutalist style.

This is my 11 year old Silky. You may find her on the kitchen bench or relaxing in the armchair in the living room or sleeping in our bed.

This just brightened up my day! What a lovely post! My Dach-Russell just loves seating herself on the dining room table so that she can watch what we are doing at dinner!

Annie says:

Loved the first post! (puppy – really??). Also – to the new family of Sphynx – good on you, what a fabulous thing you have done.

girl says:
