Chalet Rivière Verbier

Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016 by KiM

I had to share another refined rustic chalet in the mountains by the incredibly talented Marianne Tiegen. Where wood walls meet Tom Dixon Beat lights and a Mies van der Rohe Barcelona stool. And YES to the wrinkled linen duvet covers. (On that note, I am desperate to find one for my king-sized bed. If anyone knows of a reasonably priced preferably Canadian source let me know in the comments!)

M Nixon says:

Hi, I was curious if anyone knew what the odd wooden item with the holes leaned against the wall was?

Thanks,
M

Axie says:

Kim, I'm sure you have linen outlets in Canada, but in case you need more choices, one here in the US I've bought my linens from since way back when is Rough Linen.

It's pricey, but has been one of the best quality-wise that I've ever purchased. I used to buy the king sheets to make table cloths and slip covers, but she is branching out now and carrying most of those things I used to make. The Summer Cover is the most wonderful thing- a very thick, nubby and wrinkly and I use several twin sizes- for my sofa and bed as duvet protectors from the dog hair that seems to be everywhere!

No, I don't work for them 🙂 But my Scottish friend says it's as close to the linen she grew up with as anything she's found.

Jared Hayden says:

Lovely spaces. But am I the only one who feels the time has come for designers to give Tom Dixon's pendants a rest? Enough already.

KiM says:

@Axie I don't know of any linen outlets in Canada. And I'm not buying anything from the US anytime soon – with how crappy the CDN dollar is right now and duty charges etc. I'd have to pay at least double. So I'm trying to find something here.
@M – I don't know. I wondered as well.
@Jared – his lights are just too gorg to tire of IMHO

AMR says:

So lovely! Restful on the eyes.
M Nixon – my guess is a Mancala board (there's another over the fireplace in the first photo). Different countries have variations/layout of the board – a game comparable in complexity to chess.
I could have used one as a kid for another purpose: I didn't like my food touching. 🙂

Blanders says:

I bought my linen duvet cover at West Elm. It's luxurious and it looks so very now.

Hi Kim

I don't live in Canada but shop in Toronto when I'm in town to visit my family. I purchased a heavy gauge, exceptionally good quality King sized linen duvet cover and large linen cushion covers (24" by 24") from the Bay. I didn't need it but it was on sale and I thought I might use the fabric for a linen curtain at some point in my life. It is a double sided linen cover with one side depicting the Hudson Bay Crest. I can use both sides and do. Again, quality was exceptional. Restoration Hardware also sells a good assortment of linen items (bedding, shower curtains) which often go on sale. I use the shower curtain as a tablecloth for a round table so it has a lot of other potential. Hope this helps

TK says:

It's so beautiful. I would love to see some pictures of the outside.

KiM says:

@Blanders – I'll check their website. Wish we had one here.
@Christine – I should drag myself to a mall and check The Bay. YOu never know what you'l find there from one day to the next. Hope RH has serious sales right now. Thx!
