The beauty of comfort

Of the things we women have worn in the name of beauty. Whale bone corsets, sky high stilettos, boob tubes with bubble skirts and anything neon. Trends and torture. These lovely spaces are like cashmere sweaters, supple hand tooled leather loafers and the caress of a swing of silk on your body. Timeless, beautiful and comfortable. Southwest Hills house by Portland, Oregon based Alice Sergeant Design.

Usually I find red to be cheesy, but it looks great here. The dining room rug seems too small–people will catch the chair on it when they pull in/out.
The unfinished table and armoire go nicely with the beams.

I find the red accents jarring personally…perhaps that is the point? but otherwise this is my kind of décor. Beautiful!

Suzanne Melton says:

Jo, your prose is like poetry.

P.S. Love the red accents, agree that the dining room rug is too small.

Such a lyrical intro Jo, I had to fan myself!

Alice Sergeant says:

Thank you for posting about my home! I have changed out the dining rug as it was too small. I also switched out the red linen draperies for some light indian cotton ones for the summer. Decorating on a budget always posts some challenges!!
Sincerely,
Alice

I'm not usually a fan of this style but I think the lightness of it all really makes it feel very comforting and homely. I could definitely relax in this place!
