Working on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 22 Jul 2017 by midcenturyjo

Most weeks I feature workplaces under the banner of “if you have to drag yourself into work on the weekend it helps if it’s somewhere stylish.” I’ve featured dental surgeries before but this is my first paediatrician’s practice. (I love the German for it… eine Kinderarztpraxis.) Even more important than a good looking workplace is a space where children feel happy, relaxed and safe. Doktorfisch (an underwater world for a doctor’s fish get it?) by Dreimeta.

Easing into the weekend with a bright, somewhat colourful, 77  apartment in Paris that was recently renovated. Architect/designer Camille Hermand continues to amaze me with her use of colour, unique storage solutions and just all-around charming vibe of the places she has transformed. That teal is SO pretty.

A beach house in Vancouver

I am a big fan of Vancouver-based firm Fox Design Studio and I am smitten with this new project of theirs. This beach house features their signature style – lots of fun pattern and colour with a nod to nature in almost every room. It’s cozy and inviting and I love that they went nautical in a subtle way.

(More of their work here, here, here, here and here)

It must be an Australian thing but all the fun happens out the back of our houses especially in old houses with new extensions. I’m stalking a Victorian era house in a leafy street in Melbourne’s Elwood. While the facade sports a cool contemporary paint job the building still remains true to its architectural past. Hints of what is to come are revealed as you walk through the front door passing the bedrooms then BAM! all minimal and scandi, edgy and modern. Link here while it lasts.

P.S. Does anyone else’s inner stylist want to tidy those beds and pull the vacuum cleaner backwards and forwards evenly over the carpet?
