Not your average beach house

Posted on Tue, 3 Oct 2017 by midcenturyjo

A joyous play on colour and pattern, vinatge and new, this MacMasters Beach home by Sydney-based Brett Mickan Interior Design is definitely not your typical beach house. Oh the clichΓ©d nautical and fish motifs may make an appearance here and there but their presence is a tongue-in-cheek reference to holiday living by the sea. This house is all about family fun in the Aussie sun with a nod to your grandparents’ beach shack from the 60s combined with modern, casual living.

🐢 I’ve been rather quiet lately. I haven’t had the drive to keep up the good work in here. You know – life – it happens, and often I have a lot to deal with, more than I “need”. Partly because my brain is “built like that” (not kiddin’). But other things is more like things everybody is dealing with, and today I feel ready to tell you that this lovely friend, our dog πŸ’– , passed away about three weeks ago. It was the right decision, but oh my it was much harder to see it happen than I thought. There was no way to stop those tears. We decided to get a vet to our house so he could die with no stress at home with us on his regular daily resting spot. I’m so glad we didn’t take him to the vet on his last day, it would feel so wrong. One of those terrible choices you are forced to make when you have a pet. I love this photo of him, because every night (and just at night) he walked over to this plant and was standing with his head under the leaves looking totally meditative and in transe. Every night… – – #aquietstyle#botanicalpickmeup  #designsponge#villabetula #urbanjungle #greenliving #indoorgarden  #dtipetsonfurniture #boerboel #urbanjunglebloggers  #jungalowstyle

When you get a haircut & instantly look thinner. Just caught Pierre paws up on the spare bed desperately trying to get up so he could roll around in the cushions I had thrown on top attempting to sort out what’s making its way to the closest charity shop. Moved the chunking piece of art blocking his way, cleared a space on the bed & voila. This was after he kindly decided 40 minutes napping was ample so I woke up with him kissing my face. Now he is fast asleep as doing stunt rolls in cushions then wrestling them as if your life depended on it is clearly very exhausting & im wide awake. Didn’t want to nap anyway I’m telling myself. #dtipetsonfurniture #stuntpoodle #miniaturepoodle #poodlesrule #poodle_feature #poodlesofinstagram #hessexyandheknowsit

Mimi loves a nice Lazy Boy recliner.  It gives her height, sunlight and a nice view of the birds.  When she’s awake, she goes back and forth between the lap and the foot rest.

Just a quick note for anyone who lives around the Westboro area of Ottawa…my vet’s cat Hummus (a Flamepoint Ragdoll) has been missing for a few weeks now. She’s gotten tips of sightings of poor Hummus, the last one being Parkdale Ave down by the river, so he appears to have drifted too far from home and is now lost. If anyone sees him please take him home and email me immediately. He’s pretty old, needs his medication and his family misses him and really wants him back.

Stalking a warehouse apartment

You can’t get much closer to Sydney’s CBD than Darlinghurst and That’s where I’m stalking today. This is a suburb for the the über cool urbanites and those with deep pockets and I’ve found them the perfect apartment. No cookie cutter, slap dash, throw it up quick developer’s “dream”. There’s nothing mass produced about the layout and the materials. I’m loving the kitchen and the master bedroom. You?  Link here while it lasts.

Sunday at the racetrack

Posted on Sun, 1 Oct 2017 by KiM

NAP is based in Poland and creates fabulous home furnishings that can be purchased online and through 6 brick and mortar shops (they also sell some really great brands like Artemide, Lampe Gras, Gubi and Tom Dixon). They recently started dabbling in interior design and their first project was the decor of a racetrack in Warsaw, located in a modernist building built in 1939. In 2 months they outfitted a 3 level, 1500 sq m area consisting of bars, restaurants and lounge areas. Not only are the furnishings gorgeous (NAP, Gubi, Tom Dixon and Zoffana wallpaper), but I love that they dug through archive photos of the building in an attempt to replicate the interiors as they would have been back in the 40’s. Art deco design at its finest.
