Monday’s pets on furniture – part 1

Posted on Mon, 13 Dec 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.com and PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

My cats Zoe (on the bed) and Mia (in background) got in the shot as I was shooting for my portfolio. 🙂

Lottie just discovered our orange chair last week and has been sitting there every afternoon since.  She does have 3 dog beds around the house but always picks that chair or the couch to lounge on instead. I love when she moves my throw pillows on the couch around to suit her napping needs.

i know that inside a cupboard may not qualify as furniture but i thought people might get a good laugh out of this on a monday. my brother always comes over to my house and puts my dog inside the microwave, or in a cupboard or inside a random box or something. its just his weird sense of humor but anyways i thought this was pretty funny. poor jude, clinging to a serving bowl for dear life!

Exxon lives a rough life.  When I moved to KC and started working with my friend here at Framework Design, I start taking pictures of him in the various places he slept cause he amused me.
Exxon taking a nap on the Barcelona Chair (He has refined tastes).
A comfortable couch and some warm sunlight.  Sounds like a good place to take a nap.  Exxon sure seems to think so.
We share our office space with a furniture rep.  As soon as she moved in, both Exxon and (Bio)Diesel took to this chair.  We work at our desks, they nap the day away on this chair

This is Sparky, our golden retriever fighter born on 4 July.  He’s loves lying on our bed and often falls fast asleep like a baby while waiting for us to hop in.

Attached please find Mabel, my silly, tri-colored fur child perched on the Bertoia Diamond Chair in the sitting room.  She looks spiffy amid the collected lovelies on the nearby spool shelf.
– Barb (Saint Louis, Missouri)

My cat Breeze, on the newly made over chair. I woke him up for an impromptu photoshoot.

Paris locations

Posted on Fri, 10 Dec 2010 by KiM

Happy friday DTI lovelies! It’s been a loooong week for both Jo and me and thankfully it’s almost over. But I do have a busy weekend planned – last minute Christmas shopping, a Christmas party Saturday night, and Sunday my husband and I are volunteering with Friends of Abandoned Pets for their “pet photos with Santa” event at a PetSmart here in Ottawa (Merivale Rd. near Hunt Club for those who might want to stop by). To top it off we’re supposed to get a snow storm that day. I think I could use a little distraction. How about some photos of a fabulous home from Paris locations site Mires? Works for me! (What I would do for one of those suspended fireplace…would be SO cool in the media room addition we’re planning).

Fabrica Verde

Posted on Fri, 10 Dec 2010 by KiM

I love photography – my favourite hobby next to decorating – and finding out what our latest sponsor sells got me all worked up. Fabrica Verde carries Diana and Lomo cameras and accessories!! Who they are: “A confederacy of photographers, musicians and designers bound by the secret handshakes of late night revelry.  A posse of guys and girls who live in New York, travel the world, and share your passion for Lomography/creative photography, great design, irony, and the somewhat askew. We personally test, employ, and love everything that we sell.” These are the coolest cameras ever – and they look like they’d be a blast to play with. I am seriously dying to get my hands on one – would make a perfect Christmas gift. *wink wink nudge nudge* I devoured their website and grabbed photos of some of the cameras they carry and sample photos. LOVE!!

Reader request – a modern dilemma

Posted on Thu, 9 Dec 2010 by KiM

Today’s reader request comes from Hillary: “I’ve recently been gifted a Corbusier chaise lounge. (I know, right?) It’s fantastic, but I’m really having a hard time incorporating it into my existing surroundings. My partner and I have been living together for about 6 months now and because we’re in India (not my native place) and I moved here two years ago with only a backpack and he’s living on his own for the first time after college, we have no other furniture. Well, not none. We have Indian mattresses spread on the floor covered with pretty fabrics for seating, and an old door (surrounded by more mattresses) for a dining table. How can I start to meld these two seemingly polar-opposite styles? I think what will help is that soon I am inheriting an old chair and pouf from my boss that I can reupholster and paint black. Do you know of any good examples of successfully combining something so high-modern with a surrounding that is so… not high-modern?” Talk about a SWEET gift! (The first photo below is of the chaise Hillary is referring to). What I really love seeing in spaces is a mix of different styles because it’s unexpected, interesting and quirky. So perhaps most people would not think to pair a Corbusier chaise lounge with Indian mattresses, but WORK IT GIRL! I would do something like this: Pick up a couple small sheepskin rugs (faux if possible) and throw one on the mattresses and one on the chaise. Stick a pile of Indian covered pillows next to the chaise, then add some simple modern side tables on either side of the mattresses (Kartell Componibili storage units would be cute). Something along those lines, where the Indian/ethnic and modern items are blended together. Based on that idea, below are some photos of spaces that made me think of your dilemma, where I can see both that chaise and Indian mattresses/fabrics working. (Hillary, do send us photos when you think you’ve got it figured out – we’d love to see what you come up with.)
