Rounding out the week with retro

You thought I had forgotten. How could I not include a retro "fix" in this week's posts. Do I have a treat for you over the next couple of weeks. I have a copy of Terence Conran's The House Book and it is crammed with retrolicious pictures! Sit back and begin your weekend with retro baby! You know you deserve it!

Images scanned from The House Book, Terence Conran, Mitchell Beazley Publishers, London, 1974.

Some of these pictures aren't too bad.

I wouldn't mind sleeping overnight in the fourth picture, which has the raised platform for the bed and the Saarinen table underneath the platform.

The antique-newspaper-themed wallpaper reminds me of an apartment that I once lived in. It had the same wallpaper in the kitchen and the dining room.

I like those large square prints. What are the details about them?

Those long horizontal shelves reminds me of one of my childhood bedrooms. It had an entire wall filled with three horizontal shelves. It was fun to stash my toys on them, pick ones I wanted to play, put them back, and find other ones to play with.

This is making me wonder if my parents carried on the 1970s design into the 1980s, when I spent my childhood.

Hi Jon. The large square paintings are by Frank Stella, an American mimimalist artist. Google him and you'll find lots of links. I agree about the 70s hanging around into the 80s. A lot of the high end stuff took a few years to make it into suburban homes and there it stayed for quite some time. We sold my parents' home in the early 90s and I swear I was time travelling to the 70s. The National Trust should have listed it.

I love the expression on the model's face in the first picture. It's as if she's thinking, "In retrospect, maybe I did go a little overboard in here..."

Oh!!! My parents had a copy of this edition of Conran's House Book, and I spent hours on the floor as a kid, absorbing all the fab interiors...so fun. Thanks for posting these!
