Rustic idyll

More and more I feel myself drawn to the rustic ... the sophisticated rustic. The beauty of natural materials juxtaposed with contemporary luxury. Texture and minimalism. Solid, firm, permanent. One foot in the past, one in the future. I've featured Spanish firm Minim before and we have had a small glimpse of this Priorat house but when I found architectural photographer Eugeni Pons' portfolio I gasped. There is a richness, a warmth, a touch of humanity in these photos. Simple but luxe, rustic yet modern, it is a complex space. It may seem simple but it's a carefully considered play of opposites. Voids and solids, rough and smooth, past and present and Eugeni's shots capture it perfectly.

my kind of home... ;)

(I just don't like the lamps in the bedroon.)

My favourite post ever! I adore the raw, the edgy, the simple, the sublimely tasteful renovation and I would move there in a heartbeat!! Thank you SO much for finding this!!

The swing chair outside is awesome. Love the fireplace in the living room too. I like the large space and especially like the old large door in the wall between the dining room and kitchen.

That is perfect in every way. Most pictures of homes I see are too much for me and I could never imagine living there, but I could live here and love every second of it. Amazing.

The stone walls make this place. They give it some much needed warmth and character, otherwise just the furniture inside would make a lifeless space.

If heaven was on earth it would look like this.

I agree with you Unpolished Life. Without the stonework and a couple of very nice features like the large interior, hanging fireplace and overhead beams it's kind of lacking. Maybe that's the idea though?

I keep re-visiting these photos trying to figure this place out. And I just don't get it. To me, it is an earth-tone overload. The palate is just too much in the same values. The textures are great - but it's like they squeezed in as many textures as they could on every surface. Why? All that icky wood panelling, the herringbone floor, and the textured ceiling detract from the amazing stone walls. Throw in the ugly light fixtures and the boring furniture and it's a total mess. It's too much, but not enough of anything.
Too bad, as the building itself is very beautiful - imo the design work is not flattering.
