Quickie 1

Production Designer Michael Bednark just finished work on this cottage in Provincetown, MA and his agency sent through some photos. Love the zinc wrapped counters and shelving he created. Might have to steal this idea for my own temporary kitchen re-do. Believe it or not  he also painted all of the walls to look as if they had a thousand layers of paint and then glazed them to look aged. I'd love a weekend  relaxing in this tiny kitchen, whipping up a tasty something, leaning against the counter chin wagging with friends. Think I need those blue spongeware dishes too. Thanks to Alison from The Magnet Agency.

That tap is totally amazing. Talk about a scene stealer!

That is the counter-top solution I've been looking for! Jo, I'm in Brisbane too, if you find a supplier for the sheeting here, please post about it, I'd love to know more about how to do this. Just fabulous. Thanks!

I have to laugh at the fact that when you have money, you try and make it look like there are layers and layers of paint in your new house and when you dont' have money, you are painstakingly removing layers and layers of paint from baseboards and trim.

I like the counters, though. Very cool.

I would have to agree with the post above...but that's how it happens, "you want what you don't have, and you have what you don't want" (is that how the saying goes?) Well I've seen multiple scenarios where the owner of a home will absolutely do anything to get the right look to their home, and hey! isn't that what a home is about? getting what you really want? I think so. But yeah, at times it is a bit funny. Having said ALL that, I absolutely love the place, and the counters oh my! lovely!

Great looking place, but it's a bit disappointing to find out that the look has been faked. I think a regular new layer of paint would have looked nice too, and over some time it would have aged authentically. It's ironic that there are people who will do all this extra work to fake an aged look while there are people who have the real thing but they can't be happy until the beautiful signs of aging, which others are going out of their way to fake, has been covered up with a layer of paint. In most cases it's best to appreciate things the way they are.
