Dining room storage

Annie emailed us a while ago hoping we'd do a post on tall dining room buffets....and she mentioned she doesn't really like classic ones with glass door fronts. I thought I'd do a post that features some tall cabinets as well as some other options for those looking for dining room storage inspiration. I had to include some buffet/hutch combos with glass doors because I think they are so handy - you can hide away linens, cutlery and other things you don't need out on display, and glass doors let you see all your prettiest dishes without worrying they'll gather dust.

For tall dining room storage, look for a TV armoire! Event the beautiful "chinese" and "bali-style "antique" ones are going for pennies now that mounted flat screens have become standard. They are strong, deep cabinets. Those with doors that fold back into the piece itself can be used to open your liquor cabinet into a party bar!

Once you toss the 'traditional', you really are left with oriental cabinets or some form of oak media unit. (shiver) I have a friend who used chest of drawers for *everything* - dining room storage, toy storage, even kitchen storage. And kept rabbits in one, too.

Hi,

thanks for this post. Is exactly what I was looking for!

I have one question here: would you place one (or two) ca. 30" table lamps on top of cabinets like the one on picture 2 (Amoroso Design) or pic 4 (Alexander van Burge) or they are they are too big for that?
I have a similar one and I am not sure what to put on top of it.

IMHO, a 30" lamp may be too tall. Might be OK as long as everything else on the cabinet is more on the tall side.

great inspiration! i was beginning to think that china cabinets looked so dated but this post has changed my mind.
