Reader request - alcove beds

Heather sent us the following request: I have a fantasy in which I own a cottage and of course it has one (or more) alcove beds--you know, those beds that are built right into the wall, sometimes with drawers or a trundle underneath, sometimes with a window in the nook itself? Can you put together a collection of those? I would love to see it, if only to fuel the fantasy. I LOVE the idea of sleeping/reading nooks, tucked away in corners. And sleeping arrangements at a cottage is always a dilemma because the more the merrier, and squeezing in as many potential "beds" as possible is always a must. Plus, you can get away with being an adult and sleeping in a not-so-ordinary bed, which in my mind is a total bonus. Many of the photos I found are of children's rooms but translate so well into ideal beds at a cottage. (P.S. Check out this post I did on napping nooks, and this one on couches in alcoves).

My aunt had a cupboard bed built in to her extension- you literally opened a cupboard and climbed inside onto a big double bed. It was my favourite place to sleep when I was a child. These beds are such a nice idea.

Check out this one in Stephen Schubel's cottage: http://stephenshubeldesign.com/portfolio/fishermans-cottage.html

There was an old-fashioned wall bed in the kitchen of my grandmother's cottage in Scotland - nothing more cosy!

Leave it to the Swedes at Hus & Hem to have such beautiful pictures. Love this entire collection, makes me want a cottage with plenty of nooks and crannies!

I already have a few of these pictures in my pinterest. Brilliant ideas! My brother is doing something very similar in his split level to save on floor space. Love. :)

We have lived with an alcove bed since 1991 and love it. I wouldn't have anything else. It saves room space, offers storage space and makes the room warmer and more stable in high winds (from the large wooden beams that created its frame). All of our house sitters and guests over the years have said that it's the "most comfortable bed in the world".... it is dreamy! View it at the website...

Our next home will also have an alcove bed.
