Apartment in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona

Simplicity is deceptive. What appears to be sleek and clean lined and refined is highly thought out and designed. Spanish-German architectural design firm YLAB arquitectos (Tobias Laarmann and Yolanda Yuste) have taken a 130m2 apartment in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and created a space of warmth and elegance, public and private, luxury and practicality. It is as if light and shade, white and earthy, cool and warm, natural surfaces, layers of texture, stone and wood, history and the present have all been distilled into a beautiful home. Deceptively simple. Simply wonderful. Images by Jordi Canosa and Daniela Cavestany.

Una casa maravillosa en una ciudad maravillosa y que conozco muy bien. El uso de colores tierra y muebles en lineas rectas le otorga un aire relajado y contemporáneo.Besos.

Utterly gorgeous! love every single detail here..the restrained palette..the beautiful textures..sophistication hightened by the simplicity. The mirrored headboard with a distressed frame is such an unexpected touch..but fits right in! thanks for sharing the beauty..have a lovely day..xx meenal

So nice, the balance between polished and weathered. The colours are gorgeous, would love to have a house like that one day.

Hi..just shared some of these images on my blog..duly credited and linked back to you.Hope its all ok with you.. xx meenal

I do love the neutral palette. It's beautifully designed overall. I feel the narrow wood slatted wall and ceiling treatment in the kitchen is overpowering. I would have liked that in a white or a whitewash. Great furnishings!

the kitchen designer not thee kitchen designer...my post just above sorry.

The lighting is amazing. The kitchen table with the black dome light fixtures is really stunning.
Every room is designed well.

Lovely....except for the bathroom taps. They look like triffids. Or something from Teletubbies.

I like the way in the lounge area they have incorporated the black Bose subwoofer as a feature, instead of stuck to the side and at a different height to the rest of the unit. Wondering if the entertainemnt solution is Ikeas Besta range in white?

Adam, the white unit in the living room is Bo Concept, a danish furniture firm. The idea with the subwoofer came as we were prepairing the place for the photos (funny that you noticed it!)
All nice comments, thank you!!

Beautiful, simple design - clean lines, neutral palette, warm tones - and it still looks comfortable - thanks for sharing these photos :-)
