A modern farmhouse

I seem to be on a serious rustic kick these days. And it continues today! Ron tipped us off about a magazine called Garden & Gun. (Perhaps they're due for a name change?) It's about Southern American culture and low and behold, has a Home & Garden section! I found this modern farmhouse feature and completely fell head over heels for this gorgeous home. It's located outside the small town of Chester, South Carolina and was designed by architect Ken Pursley. It's rustic with modern touches and the exterior is totally adorable. I freaking love it. Now I'd modernize it a bit more with the furnishings and probably lose the rope railing but WOW, what fun I would have decorating the bejeezus out of this! (Photos by Stacey Van Berkel)

I realise I have seen some of these photos before, but never the whole house, thank you Kim! That's a great way to cope with the depressing little cupboard under the sink.

What a neat house. I don't think it needs that much tweaking but I did feel like it was neutral overkill!!!

That porch is awesome and I am imagining how perfect this house is for entertaining. However, since you brought it up, what makes you think Garden and Gun needs a name change? I assume your issue is with the "gun" part. Southerners are an independent bunch, and firearms are an integral part of that culture. From hunting their own food, protecting their families, and being prepared to fight a tyrannical government (the reason the right to bear arms is included in our Bill of Rights). Consequently, "Garden and Gun" is a perfectly juxtaposition of words to conjure the Southern good life.

Wow, I love this place! I have such a thing for grey.
I was expecting a cold interior, but this is lovely and homely. It ticks all my boxes, huge windows, lots of wood, little nooks, modern but rustic.
A tiny bit more colour here and there and it would be perfect.

That is a lovely house! Love the little bunk beds... I agree with you Kim, I just want to get in there and decorate the bejeezus out of it! It looks a bit small tho, I would add another wing. If it was mine. And I had lotsa money.
And Greg, most of us who are not Americans just shake their head in mystery and dismay at your reasoning...

Hi there! I'm with Greg on this. I'm from the American South and I actually subscribe to Garden and Gun. I read this article about this beautiful house a few months ago and was quite struck with it. The magazine epitomizes Southern tradition, which, yes, includes guns. You'll find that the magazine focuses on Southern culture (not just gardens or guns), and the gun articles talk about artistry of the weapon and hunting to bring food to the table. Suggesting a name change for a magazine whose name sums up our Southern culture is a bit ignorant. Thank you for continually featuring these lovely houses.

Lovely house. Can't say I have ever liked a farmhouse before but this has been executed beautifully. Agree about the name change for the magazine, but I live in California so what do I know.

I've seen this home before and LOVED it! Actually, because of this one, I subscribed to the magazine.

"Being prepared to fight a tyrannical government"...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Yes, fight a tyrannical government that owns nuclear and biological weapons with handguns. I want to see that movie.

Good one, Gigi! I'll have to remember that next time anyone trots out that ridiculous argument.

Gigi, clearly firearms aren't going to win against nuclear weapons. They will, however, protect against early stages of tyranny and stop it in its tracks. I sometimes wonder how different history could have been had German Jews, gays, Gypsies, and other groups Nazis targeted been well armed. As a gay man, this is especially poignant. America's Founding Father's included the right to bear arms in our Bill of Rights for a reason. There are bad people in this world, and those bad people sometimes find there way into government leadership. If that ever happens, I don't want to be helpless.

Now, on a less serious not, how about that sun room?
