Narrowboat home

Perhaps one of the more unusual homes we have featured on Desire to Inspire. This narrowboat conversion is by Dominique Brown (blog here). Built in the 70s, gutted and refitted for a simple onboard life for a young couple, the boat is just 9m long and under 2m wide. The seating pulls out to a double bed. Shelves drop down, the bathroom and wardrobe are behind sliding doors at one end. A simple yet stylish life on the English canals.

Cute! The kitchen look about the same size as the one I had as a student.
The slidey curtains (I assume that's what they are) are a clever idea. Curtains by night, art panels by day. That sofa doesn't look very comfy though.

How compact and cute - it's a tight squeeze inside but I'm guessing you spend most of your time outdoors anyway

I don't think I could live in such a small space now, but I would really have enjoyed a home like this when I was younger. It does look like fun.

I have lived on a 25' sailboat and a 28'motor home. Both were very enjoyable. I loved the compactness and the freedom to take of on very short notice.
If I wanted to simply sail for a few days, I could be gone in a few minutes. Or drive the motor home anywhere. Even towing a car, I could be on the road in two hours from the decision to go.
