The architect's home 1

I'm fascinated by the spaces that architects call home, by the designs they create for themselves. Today I am posting the homes of the principles of Italian architectural studio b-arch. This is the Florentine home of Alessandro Capellaro. 300 old ballot boxes were used to delineate space, provide storage and formed the basis of furniture pieces inside an old carpenter's workshop. Capellaro's home explores the nature between the historic and the contemporary, between the empty and the filled and between the new and the re-used. It is a story of what has gone before, what can be re-imagined taking on a new life and what is necessary for the present. It is downright cool.

While I love those ballot boxes (seriously where do you buy so many of something like that?), I'm not sure I could live with them all through my house like that. There isn't anywhere in the house that looks like a comfy place to sit. But as a feature, Very cool.

Cubular!!

So I'm going to betray my own prejudice here and say that I usually associate architects' houses more with the intellectual than the sensual. But this is sensory heaven. I'm moving into the room with the dark wall and the fireplace and the faces now, even as I type, and I won't be coming out for a very long time.

I'm trying to imagine inviting my mother-in-law into that living room... oh, I have to start collecting old boxes, I really do! I love this approach to furniture and storage. Make-do makes my heart sing.

I am loving all the furniture made from those wooden boxes!

I really like this. It makes me think of your boyfriend's house: You wouldn't choose the style for yourself, but you feel right at home when you're spending time there. It's creative, quirky and sexy, just like him.

What I love is the art above the couch, the series of blurred male faces. I think that's amazing. I also dig the selection of art on the walls.

Who makes that amazing mod multi-colored light fixture?
