LOVE this house

I absolutely adore this home - just about every inch of it. It's newly built, located in El Ampurdán, Spain, and is the home of a couple with three children. Priorities for the owners were the landscape and natural light having a strong presence, and creating a spacious and functional home...all of which were achieved beautifully. There is just oo many things I love about this home to list, so instead I'll just say that I don't think I would be interested in having a concrete bed frame, the tub in the floor looks like a health hazard, and I'd lose the tab curtains in the dressing room. (Have I ever mentioned by hatred of tab curtains? They make me want to vomit. Go with grommets!) Via Micasa.

A little too much concrete for me, but very interesting nontheless. I like that their look is consistent
throughout the house. Nice areas for their children and I would definitely take a bath in that tub.

I've never warmed up to idea of cement furnishings, beyond flooring that is. (I think it may be the gray color and how you can't move cement furniture around.) However, love the spirit of this place and how it's obviously a lived-in home with style. Thanks for your posts...as always, such a treat to visit your blog.

I don't think it is actually cement. I've just stayed in Spain, where they had what looks the same cement surface in their bathroom. From what I could see, it is some kind of membrane that is about 2 mm thick and water tight. I imagine a mix of sheet covering that you then paste on a fluid grey stuff, that then hardens.

This means it is not really heavy, it is also durable, you can walk on it in high heels, but it is actually quite warm to touch and safe to slip and bank your head on. It is also water proof. Hence the bath and sink.

Down side, it might now seem a little fake when used to look as if it is cement. That interior is probably MDF in disguise. Sorry.
I'm trying to find out what it is, as I would like to use it, that is why I ended up here. Let me know if you ever find out. Thanks. xxx
