Drama, symmetry, classicism, modern art, order and sex appeal. Yes an unusual combination but we are talking about the high art interiors of Madrid interior designer Luis Bustamante. A sculptor and painter in an earlier career his interiors are passionate and with an artist's eye for the balance of volume and shape and colour. Definitely not for the minimalist. High points for me? The black and white luxury of the dressing room, the art and that library! We have been keeping it simple on the blog for a little while. It's time to step it up.

Maison Rika

Climb the stairs above the boutique and gallery space to find the bijou guesthouse. Maison Rika is the creation of Ulrika Lundgren, fashion designer and founder of the Rika label. (In a previous life she was an interior designer - of course!) Classic, elegant, warm and with a twist of vintage, the two bedrooms are stylishly comfortable. A perfect base to explore Amsterdam's "9 streets" area.

Latest projects from 2Kul

Back in June Jo shared a funky shabby chic/scandi home by Polish interior design firm 2Kul. This firm is at it again, and this time they have taken on the design of 2 apartments in a country home just outside Wrocław, in their signature black/white/natural palette (my fav!) and modern/shabby/scandi style (again my fav!). So warm and cosy...and somewhat exotic. A great vibe.

Nicole Hollis encore

More than four years since I featured work by interior designer Nicole Hollis and her studio? I need to rectify that! Two projects. Two styles. One sophisticated and modern in black and white. The other a playful colour riot, a tongue in cheek take on San Francisco icons for a boutique hotel fitout. The first seriously sleek and sexy, the other seriously fun (that's Jack Kerouac's  On the Road as wallpaper).
