Coming up behind

A classic worker's cottage façade with a contemporary extension behind. Another great example of how Australians like to live - a desirable inner city suburb close to all the action, a small but charming historical property, a local council that values the preservation of the streetscape and that overwhelming Aussie desire for open plan living with seamless integration of inside and out. Modern farmhouse

Canny Architecture's renovation of this house in the country meets sea town of Flinders, Victoria is dark and moody, chic and sophisticated, a contemporary take on a traditional farm house. Love the dark interiors, not only stylish but perfect for hiding from the blazing Australian sun.

InForm

From design to construction, that's the holistic approach of Melbourne-based InForm Design. Their Alphington house consists of two halves. The two-storey ‘Quad’ front section is designed to take advantage of park views from the first floor master bedroom and lounge. Out back is a single storey pavilion containing the living areas separated by a concrete block double-sided fireplace. These spaces spill out to the alfresco entertaining spaces and pool.
