Help for a chick's pad

This reader request comes from Lia: "I take possession next week of a little urban cottage in Overbrook. I have pretty much no cash to do much of anything, but have to do some renos (redo hardwood throughout; upgrade electrical; paint, of course). I had a designer give me a hour's consulation re: colours, but beyond that . . . I'm on my own. I'd like the place to reflect my artsy bent and be a sanctuary for my daughter and I. Do you have any ideas for a space of about 800 square feet, including an eat-in kitchen (70's style brown wood-type cabinets, I'll keep the linoleum for now, 10 by 14 feet), 12 by 14 foot living with with non-functional fireplace (brown brick and slate), the smallest bathroom possible (with pink and black tiles with white toilet and walk-in bath - that will have to be replaced), and a bedroom for myself (12 by 9) and for my three-year-old (10 by 9)? Do you have any images of cottage-sized, girl-pretty places?" What dug around my photo stash and found all sorts of small-ish spaces with a girly touch, which hopefully will inspire Lia to create a gorgeous little home for her and her daughter. A chick pad. :) I found enough photos for 2 posts so here are some living rooms and bathrooms and tomorrow will be kitchens and bedrooms.

Leila's OTT loft

Leila emailed us some photos of her ultra-gorgeous, ultra-glam, ultra-funky loft and here's what she had to say: I always fantasized about sending you guys pics of my apartment when I finished decorating it, never thought it would take over two years. I have a beautiful loft in Brooklyn but it has this windowless room that I couldn't figure out. Basically I went back and forth between wanting a guest room and wanting a home office. Well in February I got laid off from my corporate fashion job and was given a nice severance. My dream has always been to have my own line so that's what I'm doing. Made the office decision easy! It has been the absolute best thing that's ever happened to me! I now have a cot in the laundry room for guests. They hate it! So here's my pics, I've gotten sooooo many ideas from you! My style is what we call in fashion OTT (over the top). My mom thinks all the chandeliers make it look like a brothel (I have 12).

What do mothers know anyhow? I think every girl should have 12 chandeliers!! (Thanks Leila!!)

Must be a chick's pad

Love this bright, spacious, eclectic, quirky and oh-so-pretty home. (I'm going to go out on a limb and say this had to have been decorated by a woman).

A beautiful space

I was just perusing all my favourite blogs when I came across a beautiful photo on Mark Cutler's blog of a vanity space he designed. It's so damn pretty I had to post it. I've always wanted a little corner with a gorgeous vanity table and venetian mirror and adorable chair to sit and have a tea and put my makeup on. You outdid yourself again Mark!

Australian glam

A little glam goes a long way. When we want to be girly but sophisticated as well. I love the aboriginal art incorporated with the mirrored side table, canape and lucite lamp.
