Down Mejico way

I was in Sydney for a couple of days this week. (Thanks Freedom! More of that to come.) Dinner was at Mejico, a new Mexican restaurant (doh!) with great food and a cool interior. The only thing louder than the fluoro pink and black walls was the noise of patrons having fun. 150 different tequilas. Hell yeah! Design by Juicy.

My cup of tea

Laure, from this home tour, wrote the other day to let us know she recently designed a tearoom in her 'hood of Le Cannet, France. I'm not a big tea drinker and have never been to an establishment to specifically drink tea and have cookies but I would totally get all dolled up to hang out at the Madeleine. From product design to branding, graphics and packaging all the way to interior design Estudio m Barcelona has taken what is normally an amorphous mass of sweet goop and introduced a fun taste and visual feast to the passing customers. How cool (pun intended) are those ice cream monsters with their sugar eyes?

Il Duomo

The renovation of a coffee bar in Lleida, Catalonia explores texture and light. Rope and slates made from fruit boxes from the local area provide visual interest while light and more importantly shadow draws patrons to cozy corners. The atmosphere is warm and rustic like the local country shop it is , avoiding the high tech and harsh while referencing the agricultural buildings of the area. The space is simple and real, the buzz is not only from coffee but from patrons at ease. Design is by Barcelona based AAIMM.
