Odessa odyssey

Let's take a little trip. To Ukraine, a country with a vibrant design scene that we seem to have overlooked. How remiss of us. To make amends I present this amazing 180 sqm apartment in the city of Odessa by Kiev-based architectural firm 2B.GROUP. One bedroom with a walk-in-wardrobe to die for and a bathroom I'd be "lucky" to own. Love the panelling on the bedroom wall which, if you look carefully, is electrical wiring. Love the bookcase wall, the concrete, the exposed brick, the change in levels and materials to define rooms, the luxury in this small space living.

Mooseberry design group

Nika Los of Ukraine-based interior and product design firm Mooseberry design group emailed the other day. They have designed some really fun small apartments and while I am getting a computer-generated vibe, this one caught my eye and I had to share. The pastel colour palette is not usually my thing but with the white floors it is very bright and cheerful while being a bit subtle. Add a red Smeg fridge for some oomph and you've got a good thing going here.

(Sorry - hoping pets on furniture will be back next week. Send photos to desiretoinspirekim[at]hotmail[dot]com)

City cool

A 21st century apartment in a 19th century house in Kiev, Ukraine. A sleek contemporary space pieced together carefully within a rough brick shell. Subtle changes in floor heights lead you from living room and kitchen to the dining room or up a few a few stairs to the bedroom and bath. A cool urban pad by Olga Akulov DESIGN.

Grey, black and white

This apartment is nothing fancy and isn't too "out there"....it's sort of JUST RIGHT. The colour scheme is right (grey $ white with black accents is always so good), the wood flooring and accent walls are gorgeous and add some warmth, the kitchen is picture perfect, and the subway tiles/stone keep things a bit more graphic than boring drywall. Yep, I could settle in quite nicely here. Again via The Village

Living large in a small space

A couple of weeks ago I blogged this awesome apartment in Moscow. I've got another one for you from The Village, this time located in Kiev, Ukraine. It's a small, 2 room apartment that looks so much larger (camera lens might have helped a bit too). This pad is a perfect example of how to place furniture in a small space and how to use furniture to delineate zones. The sectional sofa in this case is just what the living room needed to separate it from the dining space. The bookcases offer tons of storage and creates more of a hallway (while blocking a couple of not-so-exciting doors). I LOVE the grey colour palette (my favourite colour, always) and everything else in this apartment - but I'd lose the fish tank in the kitchen. Strange...but I won't judge. The adorable succulent-in-a-book planter idea makes up for that oddity. (And I had to use that photo first so you all didn't miss it).
