A picturesque Mallorcan finca

Posted on Mon, 5 Feb 2024 by KiM

I don’t really have the words to describe how beautiful the Mallorcan farmhouse of Tatiana Baibabaeva and Tyson Strang of design team Terra Coll Home is. But I have dreamt of visiting Mallorca for many years and this is exactly what I imagine staying in. Rustic and natural and rough around the edges. Most, if not all photos by Salva López.

Cottagecore but make it dark

Posted on Thu, 1 Feb 2024 by KiM

I would expect Sean Anderson to take a cabin, cottage, weekend retreat like this one (located in Lake Martin, Alabama) and give it cottagecore vibes but with his own dark and dramatic twist. He did just that and WOW this is soooo incredibly cozy and chic. Bet you never saw plaid looking so fine. Photos: Haris Kenjar.

They say it’s all about location, location, location but a cool house helps too. What I love about this gentle reworking of this waterfront cabin in Maine by Angie Hranowsky is just that … a gentle hand, a light touch. It’s rental which explains the lack of big ticket, rip it out and rebuild projects but I think it’s perfect. Mind you with a view like that I’d be happy to sit on a box 😛

Castello Xirumi Serravalle

An enchanting land overlooking an infinite green of citrus, aromatic flora and island palms, an illustrious castle from the 16th century, and a Baronessa with a vision of an elegant countryside venue for weddings and special events. This is Castello Xirumi Serravalle, a magnificent Sicilian treasure belonging to the noble Grimaldi di Serravalle family for centuries. The historical castle has been transformed into a private estate where every room has become a living space with antique millstones, warehouses, olive oil presses, wine cellars, and more. Gracious gathering and dining spaces provide numerous options for entertainment. The open plan on the ground floor of the castle offers elegantly appointed rooms, each one overflowing into the next, and enabling large numbers of guests to circulate the property.
This castello is so incredibly picturesque and its restoration and design by Studio Andrea Perra is magical. That photo with the horse I might never forget. Photos: Mattia Aquila

If you have fallen in love with the style of windows accenting the look of this room, you can employ a double glazing specialist to translate this aesthetic into your own home’s windows.

The Sheep House

Posted on Tue, 3 Oct 2023 by midcenturyjo

Nestled amidst the sandy beaches and vast fields of Sweden’s largest island, Gotland, Sheep House stands as a testament to the harmonious blending of history and modernity. This traditional 18th-century limestone barn has undergone a remarkable transformation into a contemporary farmhouse on the shores of the Baltic Sea.

Over a span of two years, PALTA meticulously renovated the kitchen and primary bathroom, meticulously restored the original 18th-century salt cellar, constructed a charming farmhouse pantry, and designed the interiors of both primary and guest bedrooms, as well as a spacious lofted living area. Collaborating closely with local artisans, the property was authentically restored, showcasing exquisite Gotland limestone countertops, bespoke oak cabinetry crafted by local artisans, and a curated selection of antique pieces sourced from the island’s renowned thrift community. The result is a unique blend of old-world charm and modern comfort, seamlessly integrated into the island’s picturesque landscape.
