Thrifting

Have I told you that I am addicted to thrifting? I love the hunt, the surprise, the re-use/recycle approach, the fact that money is raised in many of these shops for charities and the fact that I can buy things for next to nothing. Yesterday was a shocking day. I found nothing. But when I piled together my finds from the past couple of weeks I realised I had nothing to complain about. Sadly most of these will be packed away until we move, when we move, if we move. Oh but when we do I'll go on a styling frenzy! You can some of my recent finds here.

I feel it. So addicted. Ever since I was a kid, my grandmother's love of thrift stores, my mum's obsession with the weekly swap meet, and with school and church fetes, and my stepdad's equal obsession with architectural salvage, my dad's thing for antique stores....they infected me.

I recently scoured the web for info and marked up my spring calender with every flea market, swap meet, fete and fair for the next few months here in Vancouver. And of course my favorite RSPCA and old lady church thrift stores get a weekly hit. Or oftener.

You need to move to BrisVegas so we can go hunting together. Little old lady church stores are definitely the best followed by Red Cross suburban stores here ... just another version of old lady stores I guess.

oh stop! there are worse things, right jo? : ) there really isn't anything negative to say about thrifting - i love it so much, too!

I so need a hunting partner...my friends do not do thrift stores and are a wee bit uncomfortable with my in depth rummaging. Focus and delving, that's the way it goes...

OK here's the pact. One day we all get together and thrift our little hearts out. Maybe a mini bus tour of country towns down the east coast of Australia or Canadian farming towns or deep south USA. We hit the little old lady church thrift stores and show no mercy. Just Rebecca, Pink and maybe Kim if she promises to behave :)

I'm so in. Insert a cocktail or two and we hold the key to awesomeness. I love thrift stores in the Australialand, natürlich, but the idea of thrifting in the deep south is intriguing. Empty suitcase required.
