Spring cleaning

I have friends coming to visit tomorrow (I'm on a week's rec leave) and it was definitely time to spring clean. You know what happens when you start to clean? You start to rearrange the furniture. Well I do. I needed a little change to my first floor landing. Something a little boho. Somewhere to curl up with the phone. This is what I came up with. I know, I know. I really should get that love seat upholstered not just draped with an ikat but I might change my mind by next week. I doubt it though. That retro couch looks good in Indonesian textile.

Of course only after I took the photos did I notice that one of the Vietnamese silk lampshades had collapsed. Better get the ladder out and fix that ... if I can reach. Here's what it looked like before.

But my office doesn't look like that anymore. I started dragging furniture around in there after I finished the landing. Here's a teaser. More to come later. I have a rug that needs cleaning ... and some windows ... and the verandah.

Jo, your landing looks fabulous! I love those lanterns. I also dearly love the painting in your office over the fireplace. Is it finished? It's gorgeous!

Haha Peggy unfortunately it isn't quite finished. That's why I put it there so I can keep looking at it waiting for the idea for a finishing flourish to hit me. You know how you are almost done and it's missing something but you can't quite figure out what? That's the stage it is at. That and the fact that I got sick of painting it so I stopped for a while. At this rate it will be done by next year :P

Your nook is very inviting. I opened your page and before reading the caption, thought "Jo's home?"
I too am smitten by the lanterns. I have a stairwell that needs 'something.' These would be perfect. I wonder if I can obtain Vietnamese silk lanterns in the mountains of North Carolina.

Thanks Helen. I found my lanterns in a thrift store ...of course but I'm sure you could find some on eBay.

I love your huge religious figure. She certainly has presence. Since travelling to France over the years on many family holidays, I have been inspired to create my own little shrine with special memento's and a 19th century wooden Santos hand as the centrepiece. Sounds very weird but it does look good. Honest.......

I find nothing strange about a shrine with a santos hand. Sounds wonderful! I must admit I have a soft spot for my life size Mary and Jesus. Freaks visitors out though :P

I loved the cushions and the picture on the wall. It's very inspiring. Next year I am planning a decoration session, probably will buy a similar picture and lanterns. They will be easy to maintain and clean. Thanks for sharing pictures of your home :)
