Back Lane Café
Sat, 19 Nov 2011 3 Comments There's a new restaurant in town and I've been dying to try it for weeks. It's called the Back Lane Café and it's located about a 3 minute drive from my house, in the downtown Ottawa neighbourhood of Hintonburg. Oddly enough, Karen emailed me yesterday with a link to a post she published on her blog about this café, as she had recently done a photo shoot of it. The decor is unmistakably Parisian and looks SOOO inviting. Inviting enough that I have called them 5 (since finishing the post it's now 9) times in the past 2 hours trying to get a reservation for this evening (no one ever answers...). There are lots of great reviews of the food so it's worth a few more phone calls attempts. (Lots of more details in Karen's post - including the fact that some ironwork around the café was the creation of her own sister!). Thanks Karen!!

Stunning from the outside and in. Those floral curtains and the old black lamps and the name are all inviting. The wood chairs and the piece separating the bar and the shutters with the ironwork add a lot of warmth to the space. It has that old-world parisian feel.
Ate here on Saturday (b/c I saw your post) and it was outstanding! Two glasses of sparkling wine, quinoa salad, some-kind-of-amazing orange ice dessert, and espresso made for an excellent meal. They were fully booked when we showed up for an early dinner, but we got seats at the bar that worked perfectly for us. Thanks for the suggestion!
No fair Tia! I still haven't had a chance to go there. Now I'm going to insist on planning something for this week.
