Kim’s new house

Posted on Tue, 1 Jan 2008 by KiM

I have had photos up on Flickr for a little while of my new house but figured I’d post something on the blog in case you missed them on Flickr, so you can see what I’ve gotten myself into. This will also explain why for the next several months/years I will be very VERY busy. My new house is small, due to the fact that it’s all I could afford close to downtown (no longer 2 incomes paying the mortgage). I’m done with the burbs. So I had to make some sacrifices, size (maybe 1000 square feet and about 12′ wide, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) and age (about 90 years old) being a couple, to live in town. Attempts have been made over the years to update the house by very AMATEUR renovators. Don’t even get me started on some of the things that have gone on here. But this house is going to be a fun project for me and I’m really looking forward to it and to sharing it with all of our readers. Hope you all don’t mind if I ask for advice along the way. Now for the photos. I’ve only lived here since Dec. 18th so all I’ve done so far is stick furniture here and there. And dream.

Its beginning to look like a home Kim 🙂

Sol says:

Wow Kim, I’m impressed: you just moved in and the house feels like a home already!!

danielle says:

Congratulations with your new house Kim. It looks beautiful!

LINDSAY says:

Congrats Kim! You will have so much fun making this space your own. We have a similar home, 1000 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, and we have 2 kids! It’s not the amount of space, it’s what you do with it. Over the holidays we had dinner for 12 at our tiny place! I would never have thought that possible when we moved in. We love our home & will be so sad to move.

Congratulations on the new home, Kim! Thanks for sharing the pictures, too! I LOVE your furniture and accessories!
Anything you do in that house will look awesome with those pieces!

About where to start.. I definately agree that you should take your time.. It’s like that line from Under the Tuscan Sun, “The key to overcoming buyer’s remorse is to have a plan. Pick one room and make it your own. Go slowly. Introduce yourself, and the house will introduce itself to you.”

Congrats again, and I look forward to your reno updates and questions!

Thanks everybody! Lindsay, you’re brave – 1000 sq ft with 2 kids! Agntpoptart, I’m almost forced to take my time with this house – because every room has so many little things that need to be addressed. Nothing will be easy here. And I love your quote!!!

Jenny says:

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing. I’m looking forward to watching the progress.

Kim, wow, it really looks like you don’t have to be in any rush. Everything looks great. Take your time, and you know where to go to be inspired! 😉

I’ll bet you’ll love being in town. So much better! Best of luck!

JHAYNE says:

congrats on saying bye bye to the burbs! i’m with you, i’d definitely sacrifice size {less to clean!} for location. looks pretty good to me for just “sticking furniture here and there.” =)

it can be scary, but so very rewarding to going through renovation process and turning a house your home. looks like you’re got some great bones to work with.

yes, do keep us updated on the process! looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Thanks Jenny, Susan and Jhayne! I’ll for sure be posting progress as well as asking for advice and tips. I’ve never had this much work to do on a house so it can be a bit daunting, and exciting at the same time.
