Yvonne’s new home

Posted on Thu, 17 Jul 2008 by KiM

Yvonne wrote us recently to share with us her new home. She moved a few weeks ago and has a limited budget, but I think she’s off to a great start. Her home has amazing features like the high ceilings and the original hardwood floors.

Yvonne did have a design question for us: “Even if I like my cream-colored bedroom, I think now and then it could use some color (with pillows or pillowcases, candles, flowers…). I thought of a dark purple, what colors would you suggest?”. I love the idea of a dark purple, to add a touch of drama. You can pretty much do anything – a dark colour for drama, a bright colour for some life, a pale colour for some softness. I’ve found some photos of all white or cream bedrooms that have a touch of colour to help Yvonne decide.

where oh where did she get the Garance Dore prints?????

I like most the Maura McEvoy yellow and white – so sunny and fresh! And the strength of yellow compensates the lack of other colours.

That shag rug in the living room looks like it needs something to anchor the other side–a couple dark gray chairs, perhaps? Something. Maybe a more substantial, ornate coffee table.

My vote is for the dusky purple accent. It would go well with the wrought iron and those fantastic windows.

Good luck, Yvonne, you’re off to a great start so far.

I would try an apple green – lovely and fresh with the neutral background. Lovely bedroom, btw.

Thanks a lot Kim. I think I really like the purple idea. And that turquoise/blue is great, too. I will shop for bedding, a coverlet or pillows and candles in that colors next time.

miss fox, I just saved a copy of the illustrations and printed them out. Thats all 🙂

You’ve made a great start Yvonne! And the suggestions from Kim and the photos she has chosen are spot on. Good luck with your beautiful new home 🙂
