Agnes Bourne

Agnes Bourne‘s design studio is based in Jackson, Wyoming, and having been involved in design for over 40 years, this woman certainly knows what she’s doing. She believes in living green, and generating personal expression through the arts. Her sense of creativity is overwhelming – the quirkiness and originality of the spaces makes them memorable.

Stalking in Melbourne

Oh my, oh my, oh my! I want this house so much. I’d tweak a bit here and add my personal touch there BUT the location, the bones! This is St Kilda, a beachside ultra cool suburb of Melbourne and right outside the door is Luna Park, a Melbourne icon. Imagine seeing that smiling face from your balcony everyday. I’d be such a happy woman with this as my home.

It’s all about space and light. Sounds simple doesn’t it? To Melbourne based design firm Matt Gibson it is. Their design solutions are based on light, material and patterns of movement. With much of their work based on house extensions it’s the “threshold and junction and the rigorous exploration of the zones between what has come before and what is new…” that form the core of this work.

Sam’s dilemma

Posted on Thu, 14 Aug 2008 by KiM

Sam emailed us with the following predicament: “I have a dilemma. I just got new curtains for my bedroom whose pattern consists of gold and navy blue. I therefore want to change the design of my room to match (right now I have a green bed frame, white table, lavender carpet… big mess). However, seeing as my bedroom is in the basement and therefore has small dingy windows with limited natural light, I don’t want to fill the room up with dark colours to match the curtains. So I was wondering if you would succeed where I have failed in finding inspiring images of bright rooms with touches of gold and navy. It is not a current or popular colour combination, but a pretty one nonetheless, if you ask me. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!” It was a little tough Sam, but here are some photos for you that have some navy and a little bit of gold/yellow (ok, most do), to inspire your bedroom redo.

New from Greg Natale

Posted on Thu, 14 Aug 2008 by KiM

Jo and I have mentionned time and time again that Greg Natale is one of our favourite designers. I took a peek on this website in the hopes there was new work featured and to my ultimate delight, there was! Here are a couple that I fell in love with, of course.

This first one is in Greg’s typical style, modern and full of colour. I think this green is one of his favourites. It’s a 1950’s house located in Sydney, that included a new extension, full renovation and furnishings. (OMG, all those white Panton chairs…)

This project was the furnishing of a harbour view apartment. It features white walls which isn’t normally Greg’s style, but with such ornate and colourful furnishings anything but white would have been too much. It doesn’t get much more glam than this!
