There’s a triffid in my living room

Posted on Mon, 29 Sep 2008 by midcenturyjo

My love for house plants is growing. I don’t know why I stopped growing them in my home. I guess it may have been a reaction to an overdose of half dead, dusty fig trees and devil’s ivy from my student days in the 80s. My aversion is over now and I can’t get enough. Which leads me to this lovely retro book I found on the weekend. Decorating With Plants, A House and Garden Book, by Marybeth Little Weston,The Condé Nast Publications, Pantheon Books, New York, 1978. That’s a mouthful! Glorious living things in wonderful retro rooms. Enjoy!

I FINALLY got around to purchasing a domain name for the blog. We are now officially https://www.desiretoinspire.net. If you’ve got us in your blogroll and don’t mind changing the link, please do. The blogspot address will still work anyway. Now if I can just make a day have at least 30 hours, I’ll be all set.

Around the house

I realized it’s been a while since I posted about work I’ve done to the house or results of thrifting trips. That’s because I’ve been so busy shopping and planning my kitchen renovation that I haven’t had time to do anything else. I have been trying to work on redoing my stairs, but it’s always a work in progress so no photos yet. I went looking for appliances on Friday since I had the day off, and went to a couple of my favourite antique shops since I was close by. There wasn’t much that caught my eye, but at Found Design, an awesome mid-century shop, I picked up a really cute wooden cat (can’t remember who the owner said makes it) and a gorgeous piece of fabric. Kitchen curtains perhaps??

Wallpaper at 2Modern

I adore wallpaper. I am determined to wallpaper at least one space in my house, probably a bathroom (or both). Turns out 2Modern carries wallpaper from designers such as Fern Living, Graham & Brown and Olli & Lime. When it’s time for me to renovate my bathrooms, how would I ever be able to choose one??!! Here are some of my favourites.

Reading guide!

…. a little something I’m working on this weekend.

I know it’s a long weekend somewhere in the world. It just has to be. So in honour of that long weekend somewhere in the world here is another reading guide to help you fill all those extra leisure hours. No such luck here. We have to wait till Christmas to sneak some time off. Make yourself a pot of tea and settle in. WINKS next week I promise.
