The Selby

One of my new favourite sites is The Selby, created by photographer Todd Selby who photographs the homes of artists, models, designers, musicians…pretty much any creative person with a cool pad. They are completely authentic spaces that appear to be left in their ‘normal’ states for the camera. As much as I love a beautifully styled photograph, it’s so much fun to see how people really live.

Caren Alpert

Love the portfolio of San Francisco photographer Caren Alpert. The natural light is so crisp and clean. Her compositions may be quite simple but the photos are strong because of it. Strong and serene and focused. I guess honesty is the word I’m looking for. There’s no artifice just a great talent capturing great shots. Check the food portfolio while you’re at the website. Yummy. (I should write a food blog. I love food photography so much!)

Brown Design

Ryan and Joshua Brown are brothers and the talent behind interior design firm Brown Design. Based in Los Angeles, these guys design spaces using lots of warm tones, modern furnishings and TONS of patterns and textures. They believe in juxtaposing a mixture of modern and primitive components against clean simple lines. Their portfolio is outstanding, so check it out for more photos, and they also have a blog that shows more of their work and great decorating tips.

Addition to the desire to inspire family

Very early this morning my twin sister, who has already graciously provided me with a niece (LOL), gave birth to my new nephew. His name is Simon (I chose that!) and he’s absolutely adorable. It took 6 minutes to deliver him and I’m so happy he’s finally here. Now Zia Kim has to make sure his first word is Panton or Eames or Bertoia….

Simon, 3 hours old.

Christopher Maya

Think tailored, understated yet elegant. Add a dash of fine architectural detail, polish it up with warmth and comfort and you have the timeless designs of Christoper Maya. They are casual and classic at the same time, family homes that you want to come home to again and again. P.S. I want a secret room at the top of a ladder too!
