I just about fell off my blogging chair when I saw this post! I am finally (!) designing a new kitchen space for myself and have been going back and forth on the type of open shelving I will be using. I’m tiling to the ceiling with marble subway tiles in a herringbone pattern and have been trying to decide – do I use marble shelves on brackets, or stainless "commercial"-style shelving ? I think these photos have sold me on the stainless. They look great, function well and cost less!

I'm a long term user of these shelves – never thought of mounting them vertically, a eureka moment indeed. Great finds. Sheila

I like the way open shelving looks, but doesn't it get dusty or get oil spatted on it from the stovetop? How do you keep those surfaces clean?
