Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch of Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors (based in New York City) are my new favourite design duo. I absolutely love every photo in their portfolio. TO DIE FOR. They rock all sorts of styles – there’s a bit of mid-century, vintage industrial, Moroccan, contemporary country, modern…it’s all freaking gorgeous and looks so effortless, and timeless. I’m taking many notes and saving many photos.

yup, their work is great. starting out as set designers certainly makes it easy to adapt aesthetics to each new project.
yup, they did the royalton (very homage to paul evans/ louise nevelson), the ace, the standard (or at least was part of the team).
but their website – that is a design mess. for a firm doing this caliber of work – very surprising they have not redesigned it.
personally, i identify with their own style most of all the pics – plus love http://www.211elizabeth.com/ – too bad those single pane windows are not eco-friendly.

The Scout mag just posted a beautiful short film (10min) on Roman & Williams: http://thescoutmag.com/features/videos/790/roman__williams_studio_visit
I got to listen in on the interview (I was making photographs for the mag), and it was totally inspiring to hear them talk about their process, matierials, and history.
