Chelsea Hing Design Consultants

Posted on Tue, 23 Mar 2010 by midcenturyjo

Chelsea Hing Design Consultants are Melbourne based interior designers with a strong architectural focus. Their design philosophy is based on interiors taking their cue from the architecture, making sense with the surrounding environment. Mix that with clever planning and a practical understanding of how people use space to live & work and you get sensational spaces. Young, fresh and colourful. First off we have an apartment in South Yarra, Melbourne. Carly Chisholm from CHDC explains. “This client had long wished to own a Neo Metro apartment and commissioned CHDC to select all of the furniture, rugs & lamps and consult on placement of artworks. Referencing from the artwork, we selected bold colours and pieces to work with the strong architectural envelope yet still hold their own. All elements were lifted up off the floor to maximise the compact spaces.”

Colour your thing? Then you’re going to love this hospitality fitout  for Aqua Fish & Chippery, Hawthorn. Well known in the wholesale seafood business, Aquanas Seafood initially opened AQUA as a retail store for fresh fish. Six months after opening, CHDC were asked to update the store fitout to incorporate a new fish & chippery. The store was completely replanned to address the separation between the fresh fish & cooked product and a new concept developed to give the shop a more nostalgic and friendly feel. I love it and while I’m here I’ll have a salt and pepper calamari and minimum chips and maybe a battered sausage…. maybe. Check out more on the CHDC website.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 22 Mar 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!!!)

I am Brooklyn. I live in Stockholm, Sweden and I am a Ridgeback mix. My mom try’s to keep me off the furniture but when i tilt my head and look at her she melts. Yeah, I know she is a sucker. But it is great, cause I usually get what I want. Best of all is when mom sits next to me in our couch and blogs. I get to sleep as she gets to be inspired! Well now i think I hear someone say “walk” so that means I am out of here.
xx Brooklyn (oh and my mom, Joanna, says Hi)

I LOVE this series you do! And while I love my dog…I love my furniture too. THIS might be where I have to draw the line. Mind you, the chair is a Big Butt Chair…more than 36 inches across! Bo…apparently, is a Big Butt Dane. I did a whole series on the chair on my blog…it was a PIA to re-do!!

My Missi loves sleeping in my bed and we took this nice photo while shooting my cushions.”

After bringing in 2 new male cats in to the house this week, our 5-year old cat “Gata” has never been more competitive. Turning her charm a few more notches, she works it for my camera while chillin’ at her favorite place in the house – the office couch.

I submitted my dog Elvis’s picture for your Pets on Furniture edition and he was up (last) week!  Yey!  But it’s created some jealousy issues with our other Bichon Frisé!  Hehe!  Can I submit her photo for next week?  Like this she can regain her “queen” status within the household?
This is a picture of our 14 year old Bichon Frisé, Bijou.  That’s right, Bijou, French for jewel!  This picture was taken this summer on our wedding day by our talented wedding photographers Davina + Daniel ( http://davinaplusdaniel.com/blog/ ).  I guess Bijou needed to run away from the wedding craze and to do so, she targeted the one couch in the house she’s not allowed to jump on!  I’m sure she didn’t think she would get caught on camera!

I’ve attached four photos of Lucy, (dog), and Scooter, (bunny), hanging out on the sofa together. Lucy and Scooter are buddies and have perfected the art of sitting on the back of the sofa and begging for treats. And I don’t know if you ever include “pets on furniture” VIDEOS, but if you’d like to include my youtube link starring Scooter playing on the sofa (with appearances by Lucy and Scooter’s bunny companion, Baxter) you are welcome to.

Here’s a photo of our other bunny, Bernina.

This is Charlie. He loves lounging around on sofas and coffee tables. He loves position himself in strange places on the couch, and wedge himself between pillows. He is such a wonderful puppy, he somehow manages keep the pillows in their place!

“Here’s Oscar relaxing on “his” chair, accompanied by a Lulu DK bolster pillow and sheepskin. He’s four and we live in NYC so he’s a big fan of window watching on all that is going on down below in “his kingdom”!!!”

Sometimes my dog Ennis will just sit like this and watch me (sizing me up?) while i’m watching t.v….i’ts kind of unnerving. He’s sitting on my beautiful modern couch from Room & Board. i am so thankful to the sales person who suggested I get this couch instead of another one because it would stand up to frequent use and it sure has. Yes, I really did have an oil painting done of him as Ennis Washington (artist Carol Lew, see background) 😉

Here is a picture of our French Bulldogs Barkley and Beau (and their stuffed friend Leroy)!

I think this pic is too blurry for your site, but I wanted to share our new family member, Stanley.  We found him on Petfinder.com.  He was at Animal Control in San Jose then a nice group rescued him.  He is wonderful and I think a great advertisement for rescuing mutts!

This is Rooke our 6 year old Beagle.  We are doing some remodeling in our kitchen.  Rooke was not loving all the commotion and noise going on.  He was especially afraid of the nail gun:(  I found him in my daughter’s room using her stuffed animal as a pillow! So cute!

This is Gus, my 95 lb. Lab making himself comfortable in my wicker chair. He always chooses what I would consider the most uncomfortable places to rest, as evidenced by the photo of him lounging on my vintage table on our deck. Don’t ask me how he managed to get up there…it’s a mystery!
Shari

This is our Yellow lab, Hailey and her “little brother” Diego (Weimaraner). Ever since we moved our futon downstairs into the office, they think this is their bed. They love to cuddle up together & fall asleep!

Gotta love retro …

Posted on Mon, 22 Mar 2010 by midcenturyjo

… right? When it’s good it is so good, when it’s bad it brings a smile to my face….  shag pile carpet under the treads anyone? So glad that one is long forgotten (I hope). Enjoy today’s retro scans from one of my all time favourite “vintage” design books Better Homes and Gardens New Decorating Book, Gerald M. Knox Editor, Meredith Corporation, Des Moines, Iowa, 1981. Can’t really call it vintage because I am so much older than it.
