Taking it outdoors … retro

Posted on Thu, 6 May 2010 by midcenturyjo

Retro time! This week we’re taking it outside and way back to the 60s. From potting sheds to pavilions, trees in tables to houses in trees. I used to dream of having a fabulous hideaway just like the A-frame when I was a tike. Still do. Images this week are scanned from The Practical Encyclopedia of Good Decorating and Home Improvement, Vol 13 OUT to PAR, Greystone Press, New York, 1971.

This looks so inviting!!! So warm and friendly!

OMG, I believe I have the "pattern" and instructions for making the little A-frame in an old book published by Sunset/Lane magazine! ;o) Fun pictures. ~Sparky

Great post and perfect timing. We are closing on a 66 contemporary modern home next month- a lot of these pics are great for my mind right now. Stay tuned cause as soon as I close, I will be doing lots of blogging on the renovation

Tanya says:

So fun. This makes me want to have a brunch club.

Tonia says:

This what you call modern.

Sarah says:

If only I didn't live in an apartment…*sigh*

Outdoor living spaces are the best! =)

I love how the table just goes around the tree (photo 2). Made me smile.

Love! Our house is an A-frame and was built in ’71. A lot of the elements from these photos are present in our house. We even have a shingled roof inside over our kitchen like photo #7. Weird huh?

Such a wonderful pictures. Please, let me go back to the 60s.
