When you’re horrified by white (and a bonus)

Posted on Thu, 13 May 2010 by KiM

Nathalie is horrified by white. So naturally she gravitates towards colour. And she’s not afraid to use it….all over her apartment. In wacky and wonderful ways.

And on the same website that I found Nathalie’s home, I found a large selection of small spaces, including some pretty amazing solutions when dealing with cramped quarters. If you’re fortunate enough to have an open loft space but aren’t sure what to do for a bedroom, how about a rolling cube just large enough to fit a bed? This is SUCH a brilliant idea.

Reader’s home

Today I wanted to share with you all a little glimpse into the home of Spanish artist Javier Requejo Fernández. Javier lives in Galicia in the north of Spain and creates sculptures out of wire. His designs are so creative and beautiful (check them out on his website). His house is simple and beautiful as well, with many of his scupltures as decor. (Thank you for sharing your home with us Javier!)

House vs gallery

Posted on Thu, 13 May 2010 by midcenturyjo

This week’s real estate stalking sees me drooling over 4 storey Victorian mansion in St Kilda West, Melbourne. The house offers approximately 100 sqs of internal living, 6+ bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and magnificent formal and informal living zones retaining many original features – their words not mine. Located opposite St Kilda Pier and the beach and only a minute’s walk from Fitzroy and Acland Street. Stop it! I can’t take any more! But no they torture me with not only a vine covered facade but  the most amazing contemporary art collection. House vs gallery? There is no competition. If I had my way a house would always be a gallery as well. Link here while it lasts.

Reader request – wood panelling

Posted on Wed, 12 May 2010 by KiM

Today’s reader request comes from Anna in Norway: “I have just bought my dream apartment with my boyfriend, and even though I love it the way it is now there are a couple of things I would like to change. I want to make it a little bit warmer by adding some wood paneling to one of the walls downstairs. I was therefore wondering if you have some good inspirational pictures? I would greatly appreciate it!” Anna included a link to the listing of her apartment to show the space she’s talking about, so here’s her living room:

It’s a great space and I adore the staircase! So here are some photos of wood covered walls in living rooms. Anna, hopefully this will get you thinking a bit outside the box, away from traditional panelling as there are so many options you could go with.

Themed kid’s rooms? Yay or nay? I would normally say nay. That was until today. Kansas based stylist Kate Dixon changed my mind with her amazing vintage circus room. No clichéd, tacky home-makeover-show nightmare. Kate and her team at Artistic Living Spaces create whimsical spaces that are also functional and so much fun! Look at that rug! And that bed! And the ferris wheel! And the chalkboard wall! And the height chart disguised as a game of strength. It’s all so clever, so stylish, so hip. I want to be a kid again. I’d be so cool in this room! You can follow the whole process on Kate’s blog.
