This reader request comes from Melinda: “My partner and I are renovating our 130 year old semi in Sydney, he wants carpet on the stairs (because apparently I ‘clunk’… which to be perfectly honest I do) and I want to stain the original timber. I’m thinking a stair runner may be the perfect compromise. I would be very much appreciative if you could dig into your amazing picture resources for stair runners.” Here are some photos of inspirational stair runners for you Melinda, the first being my absolute favourite EVAH.

oh i love the sisal ones. x
Fun post! I love the one below your favorite on the right — I suppose that means I’m a traditionalist at heart. Dark hardwoods make me drool. xoxo
Melinda, we put down FLOR squares (cut in half) on the treads of our stair and painted the steps black. Really nice effect and not expensive! They have stuck perfectly after years of vacuuming!
I love the red stairs!
LOVE the rug featured in Country Living. Anyone know what issue that was in? Or even better, know where I could get that rug?
Ooo i love that first rainbow staircase! So fun!
Lots of beautiful stairs there, but all rather traditional – except the multi-colored colorful stair runner, of course!
Woow, wonderful staircases. The first one from Bill Kingston is clearly my favorite.
The house beautiful stair runner is fab… Do you know where I can find it please?
