Reader request time. This one comes from Kelly: “I’m looking for inspiring kitchens that feature white appliances. We moved into a home in the suburbs of Chicago and stove in the house was a brand new white stove. When we replaced the refrigerator and dishwasher we also chose the more-economical-than-stainless white. Most inspirational kitchens feature stainless appliances but I would love to see what you come up with. I’ve only seen three good examples: One featuring the new Martha Stewart cabinets at Home Depot (the “Ox Hill” image in the gallery)…and this image from Canadian House & Home…and this image with white appliances and black cabinets.” I was excited to find images of white appliances for Kelly because when I had started thinking about how I wanted to renovate my kitchen, I kept coming back to the idea of white cabinets, countertop and appliances and adding colour simply through a backsplash or accessories. I admit I was nervous at the thought of buying all white appliances because stainless is SO prominant these days. Anyway, here are many examples of kitchens with white appliances (including some all-white-kitchen ones) that hopefully will help Kelly figure out what to do.

Wow, I can't help but wonder why so many kitchens nowadays have stainless appliances? I love white stoves/sinks/fridges! And cabinetry! I also love non-renovated gutted kitchens which have character and are well made by once upon a time carpenters! I have an all-white kitchen which has been upgraded (only stove/fridge) for decades wouldn't trade it for anything – well maybe a smeg fridge? In perhaps cream? Perhaps even a white Viking stove? I like stainless just know it's not for me. And it's also not for every kitchen. My favorite photos are from "Domino." Never quite understood the flat screen t.v. above the stove though? Another fav two are Cottage Living and Canadian House and Home. I also like Martha Stewart.

I am in the process of building a kitchen with white appliances, and they are getting harder to find. The stove that I will buy is $1700 in white and $1200 in stainless, so I suspect that stainless has turned out to be cheaper to manufacture (with the current near 99% market share) than white porcelain.
Hey, Manufacturers, make more WHITE appliances, especially dishwashers and stoves!

I have stainless steel appliances and would much prefer white or black ones…the stainless is hard to keep clean, shows every fingerprint and scratch, etc.
Awful too if you have a sixteen year old who loves to cook but hates to clean up…Embrace those white cabinets!

I always think that looking back, we'll see stainless steel and granite and think, "That is so 2007!" That being said, I have white appliances of varying ages and manufacturers and they all look good together. Fresh and light and happy.
And it seems the manufacturers are doing a better job with white. White fridges used to have that weird texture on them.

The Alvhem kitchen is yummy, I love that green splash back.

While stainless steel is still a popular option there is a huge trend to appliances that have the same face/finish as the cabinets – Love this! Combined with more art work in the kitchen, it just really makes for an inviting and fresh kitchen look.
White appliances + natural wood cabinetry + concrete counters with multi-color glass aggregate = pure perfection.

Thanks so much for the post–such great inspiration!!

I found it a little disappointing that SO many of the ones you show feature all-white cabinetry. That seems pretty predictable and obvious.
I wish you could show more examples of white appliances with colors of cabinets. Maybe they just don't exist? Or maybe you don't like how they look?
I liked the Canadian House and Home one w/ the yellow cabinets and the white countertop/appliances.
And the Jacqueline Glass one.
When I redid my kitchen, I chose dark-brown wood cabinets and a white counter. So many people insisted I should use stainless, but I just don't like it. And I loved the contrast between the dark wood and the clear, bright, calm white. It felt fresh.
So I decided that the appliances were an extension of the counter, and boldly chose white. I haven't regretted it. I think the white makes the dark brown really pop, and the white feels welcoming somehow.

Explain again why we install grey, smudgey monstrosities that throw off all our decorating schemes? Mind my words, someday we'll look back on the days of stainless steel, and cringe as if it was macrame and giant platters of unwashed vegetables.

Talley Sue, after going through my stash of photos, and my twin sister's stash (which totaled THOUSANDS of photos), the ones I featured in this post were the only I could find that clearly included white appliances. It just so happens that many were in white kitchens.
