WINKS

… getting the measure of things

WINKS – weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we’ve found and things we think you’ll want to see. If you’d like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we’ll link you. So what’s in this week?

  • Carolina Fontoura Alzaga makes elegant, victorian inspired chandeliers out of recycled bike parts. Steampunk beauties to make a statement.  I would kill for one of these!

  • FDV Collection has teamed up with the premier Italian textile manufacturer Rubelli to create these oh so glam pendants and floor lamps,  Alexandria and Damasco. Very different from the bicycle pendants above but referencing the same past with a modern take. Available through Leucos.

  • How wonderfully wild and whimsical are these?!! OTT 😉 Sally Bridge, a former fashion designer is now designing and making rustic modern, wrought iron furniture. See more at Sally Bridge Metal.

  • Have you been to see the new Australian based online magazine Adore Home yet? If you haven’t then grab a cup of coffee and settle in for a treat. (Great for Aussie sources too when it comes to getting the look.)

A little bit of rustic on a Friday

Posted on Fri, 15 Oct 2010 by KiM

It’s been a bit of a trying week, and I thought I’d keep things simple for today’s post. I’ve always been drawn to spaces with lots of rustic charm, and there are so many wonderful rustic homes featured in the French magazine Art & Décoration which I manage to find at a couple book/mag shops here in Ottawa. So to end off the work week, sit back, relax, take a deep breath and enjoy the following photos…

Subtle changes powerful impact

Posted on Fri, 15 Oct 2010 by midcenturyjo

You’ve seen this house before in magazines, product shoots and here on Desire to Inspire. It’s location78, the East London photographic location house of photographer Graham Atkins-Hughes and stylist Jo Atkins-Hughes. Their design, their styling, their business. Look more closely and you’ll see them, the subtle changes that have taken this house to the next level. A few well chosen pieces of furniture and new accessories, touches of new colour (including a black living room), warm timber tones have added a life and a warmth to an already amazing house. To cap it all are these fabulous new photos by Graham. A new look at old favourites, a peek at spaces we haven’t seen before and an exuberant garden that is the perfect foil for the moody maturity of the interiors. I couldn’t make up my mind which photos to leave in or out. I’m guilty, I’m afraid Graham, of using almost all of them. Available for location hire… maybe I could hire it permanently and move on in.

P.S. Launching soon an online shop at their website sevenandeight.com and they have started a blog. I’m sure they’ll let us know when they have all the content ready.

Reader requests – backsplash and home office

Posted on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 by KiM

Reader request time! This one (actually 2) comes from Malou: “My husband and I are constantly inspired by your posts. We’re hoping you can help us with ideas for:1. kitchen backsplashes for an all kitchen with white cabinets and dark gray floors   2. home office with tables in the middle“. Simple enough. So here are some white kitchens, most with grey floors, that have some ideas for backsplashes. After the jump are some offices with tables/desks in the middle of the space.
