Sam McAdam

Posted on Tue, 11 Jan 2011 by midcenturyjo

Grey days, heavy rain, raging waters and dark times in my part of the world. Perhaps some beauty from Australian photographer Sam McAdam. Simple, classic, inspiring. One of our premier editorial photographers. I want to wax lyrical about this portfolio but I have to rush. Water is rising. We are safe but my city is not. Keep us in your thoughts.

Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

Posted on Mon, 10 Jan 2011 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

This is our baby Gena and she is ready to take a nap on her favorite sofa.
– Rasa (Chicago, IL)

I send you a pic of Nala and Ulfi on my Ikea Lunna chair.
– Inma (Sevilla, Spain)

Georgie, in Flatiron manhattan on a daybed.
Georgie on a swivel club chair.
It’s Georgie again on his favorite vintage chair

– Lauren

This is where I regularly find Cheeko my Long Haired Chihuahua hiding. He thinks the comfiest spot in the house is on my bed or on top of Winston, our Cavalier King Charles on the couch!
– Clare (Australia)

Attached are 2 photos of my 10 month old rescue mutt, Lyman. I bought this set of vintage chairs and table a few years ago for $50 at a thrift shop in West LA. When I rescued Lyman over the summer, he immediately discovered them and enjoys hanging out here while I am working at my desk.
Rebecca

this is Samantha, our 1 year old Bernese Mountain dog. She knows she is not allowed on furniture but can’t seem to resist from time to time. I caught her napping on the yellow couch but she didn’t seem to have any regrets…
– Stacey (CT)

Here our little sister kittens Benek and Ufo. They are almost 4 months old now and literally ruling the house.
Benek and Ufo lying on top of their favorite armchairs in our living room. One armchair for each!
They love playing with our vintage wooden luggages on the porch. It’s such fun to watch them 🙂

– Ayse (Ankara, Turkey)

I got Cookie and Cupie as Valentine’s Day presents to myself 2 years ago. They have each claimed a chair in the living room and you better hope the dog (Sirius) doesn’t walk by either chair!
– Candice

This is Oscar, my Goldendoodle hanging out on his favorite plaid couch.
– Amy (Louisville, KY)

Within hours of the arrival of our new Womb chair our Mexican rescue dog Zoya had discovered her new favourite perch in the bedroom-even better if there is a human next to her!
– Karin (Vancouver)

My name is Zoe and I am 4 yrs. old. My breed is a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. I happen to be a Queen though. I hang out at European Antique Market (our store) with my Mom during the week. I’m very people-ized and have a knack for showing our clients how livable Country French furniture can be. My goal in life is to “Desire to Inspire” and mommy says I do.
– Zoe c/o Shawn (Louisville, Ky)

This is Pounce, hanging out on his favorite Platner chair.”
Ida (Paris)

Fatguts is not actually fat, he just acts like an overweight cat, maybe its all the hair. He is dopey, and clumsy, and he thinks this bed is his. He will quite happily sprawl across the whole bed, and look quite perturbed when he gets kicked off.
– Andrea (Murwillumbah, Australia)

1. Valentim, our 11-year old persian, sleeping in the new wood chair;
2. Mimi and the flowers…

Ivana (Brazil)

It is so hard to take photos of pets, especially my cat Kuzya. But he was practically posing for these.
– Nat (Ottawa)

Junebug’s New Years resolution is to sleep more and chase the farm animals less.
– Diane Harris (Gum Spring, Virginia)

Though I do not know where this retractable seat came from, it is large and comfortable, and it’s evident these two brothers- Max (Yorkie) and Sam (King Charles Spaniel) both love it.
Julia (Shanghai, China)

Mowi, 9 months old, in his favorite room
–  Ana (Alicante, Spain)

This is my friend’s dog Andy laying among some beachy throw pillows.  The photo was taken in my friend’s condo in Hermosa Beach.
Natalie

7 month old bullterrier puppy (Dardo) sitting on a vintage tulip chair. he loves to slip on chairs in strange positions. mostly he loves chairs and loves to sleep.
– Mali & Pablo (Buenos Aires)

Here is our cat, Miss Roxy, on the dining table staring at her image in a sang de boeuf vase.

Umbria

Posted on Mon, 10 Jan 2011 by midcenturyjo

Ah Umbria! Beautiful, beautiful Umbria! If I had won the lottery last week I would be winging my way to Italy right now. Escaping the incessant torrential rain swamping Queensland. I know it is not summer over in Italy right now but I’m prepared to rough it through the winter at Castello di Reschio. That way all will be ready for your visit when the weather warms up. 5 bedrooms, might have to wheel in a few trundle beds. If I rent it from now to eternity you all might be able to make it for a week or two. Line starts on the left 😉

My fingers are itching ….

… to do a Saturday post on the main page but we promised ourselves that we would take January weekends off and I’ll be buggered if I’m the one to break the New Year’s resolution first. (This does not count Kim!) I have had to satisfy myself with more home tour and new old house bedroom ideas over on my page. Come over if you are having withdrawals too.
