Some readers’ bedrooms

Posted on Tue, 22 Feb 2011 by KiM

We received emails from Stephanie (from Montreal) and Bec who wanted to show off their bedrooms that they say were inspired by desire to inspire. Big smiles from both Jo and I as we’re here to inspire the pants off of you all. I thought I’d share them with you today, starting with Stephanie’s (the rest of Stephanie’s and Bec’s will be after the jump).

I’ve been a big fan of your blog for a while now, and your posts have definitely been a huge inspiration for my new bedroom. Though I’m not a professional photographer with a big (and expensive!) camera, I’ve got some decent shots and a very adorable kitten is even featured !

My name is Bec Bardoel and I have been a keen follower of your blog! I just wanted to say thankyou so much for all the amazing work you have put into your blog, I’m always inspired and motivated by each update. It has been especially helpful and motivating when I’m stressed and worn out from my textile uni assignments. Anyway i thought I’d share some pictures with you of my new room that I decorated from all your inspirational imagery and posts.

Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

Posted on Mon, 21 Feb 2011 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

***Pets on furniture will be put on hold for the next couple of weeks while I am on holidays. Feel free to continue submitting photos to me. I will resume these posts on March 14th.

Here you have our hairy persian cat Bengt, six years old. He loves our furniture, here on a armchair from IKEA and a footrest from Englesson.

Pets Name: Sabine aka Bean, 6months old on Feb 18th
Pic 1. Nice Chair: Her strong attempt at looking regal upon her Louis the 16th chair…
Pic 2. Nice Chair: Apparently her strong attempt at looking regal bored her to sleep… upon her Louis the 16th chairs.

Our pug Mischa, who lives a life of leisure.

Our fourteen year old Brittanies, Ruby and Kiki, spend so much time on this sofa that I can count the number of times I’ve sat on it on one hand (and we’ve owned it for years!).
– Sara (Chicago, IL)

This is Primo, our 10 week old Lagotto Romagnolo puppy.   Primo loves to hide in the flokati rug in our dining room…as you can see, it is a perfect hiding spot for him.
– Brooke (Boston, MA)

Trying to photograph my Spanish Water Dog on a bench. He is extremely camera shy so it took 40 unsuccesful tries, very cold gloveless hands, and a dog in a bad mood. Of course, whenever I do not bring my camera he sits leisurely on this favourite bench of his!
Anna (Paris, France)

We feel comfortable.

I had to share the following email with my pets on furniture fans. It’s from a French reader named Margaux:
While reading your blog, I discovered your “Pets on furniture” articles and thought that it would be interesting to introduce you to Valerie Mayan. Valerie is a french artist really interested in animals and paints portraits of them. She chose an image of your “Pets on furniture” article and painted one of them. Valérie is used to work this way : She recieves a picture of an animal, the owner tells her which kind of colours they like and Valérie paints it. So if a reader is interested by her work they just have to send her an email at the following address : valerie.mayan@gmail.com and they may also visit her website: www.valeriemayan.com

P.S. I’d like to wish my husband a very happy thirty something birthday! How about a trip to Mexico for your pressie? 🙂 Love you Jeffrey!!

Here is my kitten Harriet-who I usually just refer to as Muffin Top ( “…is all that whole grain low fat” 30 rock anyone? )- on a mid-century looking chair i found for five whole dollars  recently. Two of my favorite things.
Amber (Salt Lake City, UT)

Pierre on (his) ottoman.
Robert

Here’s a pic of my German Shepherd Major Dukes, lying pretty in a ’29 Spanish Revival apartment in Hollywood, CA. Of course, he’s got a Facebook fan page, too.

This is Lola (the bulldog) and Winston (King Charles Cavalier) that have grown up together.  The couch was an awesome “hand-me-down” find, with hand-made zebra pillows and tribal print pillow from World Market.  My favorite part of the couch is the substantial brass studs that go up each arm.
Rachel (Dallas, TX)

Dots likes to help with DIY, and this day she was helping me pick a paint color for my window seat. You can see another picture of her (and the paint color choice) in this blog post.
Dots has claimed our guest bed as her own.

– Cait (Florida)

The boys, Bernie (sofa) and Stuart (Chair), appreciating the Mid-Century Modern Furniture.
– Meghan (Toronto)

We recently adopted a stray cat who, as it turns out, was pregnant with 6 kittens. Here is a photo of Teeny, the kitten we are keeping, at five weeks this past weekend on our couch at home next to one of our colorful throw pillows.
– Katherine (Montreal)

My great dane, Roxy, taking over the couch!

Stalking cool

Posted on Mon, 21 Feb 2011 by midcenturyjo

It’s hip. It’s cool. It’s retro modern and I want it to be mine. Add a piece of art or two. Find a place for my Featherstone chairs. Maybe a PNG spirit house totem in the corner and I would be very very happy in this Surry Hills warehouse. Sometimes stalking pays off. I’m already living my imaginary life here 🙂
