Cue the violins

Posted on Thu, 14 Apr 2011 by KiM

I don’t really know what to write as an intro to this post. Basically I am stressed out and preoccupied to the max and my brain is just not functioning up to par. My day job has been REALLY busy for ages, we’re trying to get plans finished for the house which is a little tough working with an architect AND designers (both of whom are swamped), I have a French test (for said day job) the day after Easter weekend that if I don’t pass may mean having to leave my team (where I have worked for my entire career as a public servant) and go back to programming – something I REALLY don’t want to do. And I f*cking hate tests, especially verbal ones. With that whining, I leave you with some photos from Avotakka, a very cool Finnish magazine. (P.S. I really want to make a floor lamp like the one in the first photo.)

Anson Smart, again

Posted on Wed, 13 Apr 2011 by KiM

Jo has a huge crush on Sydney photographer Anson Smart (see here and here), and after stumbling upon his website myself recently I’m crushing too. His photographs are so beautiful and he has a knack for bringing out the true beauty in each space.

Beach stalking 3

Posted on Wed, 13 Apr 2011 by midcenturyjo

I promise this is my last beach stalking for the week. Today’s beach home is not quite what you would expect from a seaside residence. It’s darker, moodier and more masculine but it is still relaxed and focuses on bringing the outside in. It reflects its position further back from the sea in a canal estate. It’s more urban resort than seaside chic and oh so cool. Love the garden ideas in this one. Link here while it lasts.

I see the light

I’m fairly certain I’ve just died and gone to heaven. Quick, SOMEONE PINCH ME. If this were to be my last post on this blog, I can say I went out with a bang. I am talking about the extraordinary photography of Jean-Marc Wullschleger. This man has photographed some of the most memorable homes I’ve seen during my MANY hours of research for this blog, and may I be so bold as to say they are some of the coolest homes on the planet.
