Perhaps where you live is not dusty, but I would not want to paint any trim, floor or door black for the ever-visible dust. Just like a shiny black car, they seem to show the spots and dust more. Also, as sunny as my locale is, I love the reflected light that most light painted walls bring into my home. I love the beauty of some of the trends, but I look beyond to the practicality of long-term appeal and less maintenance. Just the thoughts of a 25-year vet of architectural design/art and would offer this suggestion to a client, as well. ;o)

I think it would be cool to see the door frames/walls all painted in different but complimentary fresh colours, when standing from the same spot as when you took the photo… also a Persian runner rug will be awesome, that runs all the way to the end… I've always been a fan of those.
