Karl Anderson +1

Posted on Tue, 9 Aug 2011 by midcenturyjo

Swimming in saturated colour. Shining with bright, white light. I’ve said it before ad I’ll say it again. I have a photographer crush. I’m not flighty though. I’ve admired photographer Karl Anderson’s work since I first featured him here. Beautiful, rich shots at the same time light and buoyant. Don’t you just find yourself saying “wanna wanna wanna walk right in.”

Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

Posted on Mon, 8 Aug 2011 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to  desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

This is our new 15-week old French Bulldog, Luna, on our bed (where she really isn’t allowed yet)…I love her smushed-nose profile. =)

This is Jimmy! I work for an interior design store and my employer recently had her home photographed. She couldn’t leave her bud Jimmy out of the pictures!!

I’m sending some photos of Miroslav, my adopted hyperactive stray cat. I think he has a thing for design chairs because he’s always chilling on our Eames or on our Sergio Rodrigues inspired… Here’s a capture of one of these downtempo moments!
– Miri

This is our Royal Cat who acts like a queen and treats her kitties like unworthy subjects. We kind of like her anyway, especially when she’s sleeping on our veranda like this.
Linnéa

This is our cute cat Turtle lounging on our lovely vintage table and industrial Sebel chairs. Apparently it’s more comfortable than it looks!
– Jana & Nic (Melbourne Australia)

This is Agnes who loves to lie on the soft long-pile rug from late 60’s/early 70’s. The rug is from my grandparents home. The chair is called Mademoiselle and is designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1956 for the Swedish factory Edsbyverken. The fabric on the pillow is called Pottery and is designed by the famous Stig Lindberg and the bookshelves in the background are the Ikea-classics called Billy.

(Trelleborg, Sweden)

I know the pet is supposed to be ON the furniture but Cosmo (an 11 year old female Border Collie/Lab cross with ideas of her own mostly) feels the best place to lie is always UNDER furniture -here she is partly under a salvage job bench (I found this awful looking wooden bench with great metal legs on the curb. I took it apart, repainted the legs matte black, ran the wood through the planer, sanded, stained, and varathaned it…and voila! Another Rustic Benches salvage job!

Attached are photos of our dog Winnie, a 10-year-old rescued spaniel/Golden retriever mix. She’s a sweet girl who loves to cuddle.

Only the most grandiose piece of furniture in the house will do for my Papillon, Dita.
– Jessica

This is “Bebis” who moved with me across the ocean, from Toronto to Istanbul.
– Gokce

I do hope Peggy the miniature schnauzer from Glasgow can make the cut in out nursery!
– Tom

Please find attached a photo of Murray our 9 month old cocker spaniel on ‘his’ couch! Next to ‘his’ couch is our re-conditioned vintage telephone (Murray loves to bite the wires) also in shot are our polka dot and ‘Keep Calm And Carry On’ pillows (which at the moment Murray’s trying to hump!).
Lucinda

This is Hector, my beautiful tabby companion. This represents my ideal work/life balance. My Mac, my kitchen and my cat.
Jess (London, UK)

This is our 15-year old cat Mrs Murphy which we rescued two years ago from an animal shelter. She´s a true lady and glamour is her stock in trade.

Four kittens showed on our front porch recently. We’ve taken them in and are trying (desperately) to find good homes for them as we already have a houseful of pets! The first picture shows Oreo on a bamboo and rattan chair from Ethan Allen, covered in a cute pineapple-print fabric. He’s playing with Rascal. The second picture shows Oreo and Lulu in the back of a station wagon pedal car (I hope that qualifies as furniture) that my father restored. Lily is on the floor between the station wagon and the attached horse cart. If anyone in California is interested in adopting these great little guys, please e-mail me at echodak@bak.rr.com.

The screened living room

Posted on Sun, 7 Aug 2011 by KiM

A couple weeks back Maureen shared with us a home featured in the Modern Home Tour in Austin. This time it’s a home from the Outdoor Living Tour that is a DREAM!
As described by the architect (Cass Cheesar Architects): One of the main objectives of this project was to celebrate sustainable design while making the elements esthetically intriguing. The cypress rain screen was allowed to gray in it’s natural time and the steel was left to create a seal of rust. Another objective was to site the project so the clients could experience the urban nature of their backyard while maintaining a small carbon footprint.
He called it The Screened Living Room. How I wish I had the space for something like this in my yard. WOW!! (Photos by Andrew Chan)

We’ve got a new advertiser in the house – NoteMaker, Australia’s leading online stationery shop. Since I was a kid I have been a sucker for anything having to do with stationary. I need funky pens, markers, paper, notebooks etc. in my life. And NoteMaker has all sorts of classic and fun stuff to suit all your needs – diaries, notebooks, pens & pencils, albums, paper, stamps, tape etc. The folks at NoteMaker have kindly provided a discount code to our readers, so enter DESIRETOINSPIRE at checkout to receive 10% off. They offer free shipping to Oz for orders over $65 and they do ship internationally (to selected countries). I went through their website and found a bunch of my favourite products, seen below:
